The pollsters AND the punters got that one wrong. An earthquake. And not just Blighty. I think it’s pretty clear that–
In the deserts of Sudan
And the gardens of Japan
From Milan to Yucatan
Every woman, every man…..
…………is really, REALLY pissed.
Je t’adore, ich liebe dich! Hit me!
As we speak, though the Sir Humphreys in both Britain and the continent are scheming of ways around the will of the people/
A short while ago on this blog there was a thread for video recommendations. So for those readers who might not have got Ganderson’s reference to “Sir Humphrey,” it refers to a character in the excellent British satire series “Yes Minister” and “Yes Prime Minister.” Even though it’s from the eighties it really holds up well. You can probably Netflix it.
Globalist establishment types — Save your “shocked and appalled” expression — may be needed again on November 8.
I’m making it a point to follow as many SJW types as possible on twitter today ….the butthurt is hilarious
Congrats UK! I hope this is the beginning of the end for the EU experiment as we know it today. The people have spoken, good-bye global elitists and your idiotic lick-spittle’s in Brussels. Let us return to our own national sovereignty and the Common Market. Well done!
They did it! They did it! WooHoo!
Congratulations Britain! I’m so proud of my cousins across the pond.
Oh, the wailing and gnashing of teeth shall be splendifferous!
I voted Out, and went to bed like many of my fellow citizens expecting the pencil crosses (yes we still make an X with a pencil) in the Leave box to be erased or the lying media or even 30 million postal votes from Tower Hamlets to swing it to Remain. But we were lions, and we roared! My wife woke me with the words ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ and I am so proud of what we have done. I am however no fool: the process is not fully complete and now our shitty politicians will now have to… Read more »
It is a day for congratulations. I will permit myself some envy as well.
You guys did it! Congradulations from the bottom of my heart. Secession from one world order tyrants, or whatever you can call that group of the economic/political oligarch’s. It is amazing and heartening. Wow. Lets see now if our own exorcize in peaceful secession come November is successful.
Eyes swelling with tears of joy.
Elect Trump and slowly start ripping our countries back from the steely grip of the globalists.
Well said. I second that.
to all of the above comments…..this is just spectacular and seismic!!
The tectonic plates of Globalism are now in motion….Thank Man and God
sanity, courage, pride and the Human Spirit have prevailed!!
GREAT WORK and Way to Lead, my British brothers and sisters!!
I am truly stunned. And cautiously optimistic. Something I haven’t felt in a while. Is that fresh air I’m breathing?
I’m as surprised as anyone about the result. We may be entering a phase where it is common for people to lie to pollsters. Alternatively, we may be seeing the shenanigans of pollsters reach a natural limit. Polling-as-propaganda is common in the US so I’m sure it is common in the UK. People now seem to think all of them are fake so therefore their value as propaganda has declined.
I would assume this gets the Scots inching for a another independence vote. On the Continent, I’m sure we’ll see agitation for similar votes.
Sadly, they won’t get them. The People voted the wrong way. The lesson, then, is: Never, ever give The People a vote. I’m proud of, and delighted for, our cousins across the pond. I wish them the very best, and sincerely hope it works out for them. But the rest of the EU will, I fear, have to go about it a different way….
I’ve always thought that the best case scenario for the EU was for it to die from a thousand cuts. Britain leaves and then Italy gets a Five Star government that begins to demand reform. France elects Le Pen on a mildly anti-German mood. The result is a slow retrenchment of the project back to being a free trade zone a currency coordination.
Worst case Merkel decided to repopulate the Sudetenland with Syrians.
I hope you’re right. I’m afraid your worst-case scenario is much more likely. Vox Day is always going on about how today’s “far right,” “ultra-nationalist” parties are going to look like Liberal Democratic cupcakes here in a few years. I think he’s right, alas.
Ay, there’s the rub. What do the Germans think?
Funny those bold, independent Scots voted heavily in favor of staying in. I think Sean Connery is still avoiding his homeland on principle. Rule Britannia!
I would be blown away if there wasn’t vote rigging and gerrymandering on the Scott’s secession referendum. There was underground talk of some particularly fishy goings on.
Perhaps the day is coming when Boris Johnson and Donald Trump will re-establish what was once an ironclad alliance between us.
In the immortal words of George Takei “oh my”
Not sure if a pollster has ever called our house or not, but if one did I wouldn’t tell them shit.
Interestingly, from my point of view anyway, the only time I’ve ever been called by political pollsters was during grad school. Three or four calls over two years and zero before and since.
While I am very happy for the British, I am sure that the dark forces are mobilizing as I write this the faculty lounges, board rooms, NGO conference rooms, and salons are full of transnationalist, Rousseauist loons plotting revenge.
I go back and forth on polling. I think some of it is fairly sound. I know some of it is total fraud. The Daily Kos used to use a polling firm that turnout to be one guy in his basement just making numbers up to please his customers. Many firms goose the results by asking strangely worded questions. I also think there’s a lot of follow the leader. When one reputable polling outfit releases data, the others slowly comport to those results. That seems to be what is happening in Britain. Two blown calls in a row now. That… Read more »
I take it as given that as a group, today’s pollsters are for sale, and it doesn’t matter when they blow one because everyone understands their job was to move the vote. What puzzles me is how badly the bookmakers blew Brexit. I’m nowhere near the game, but I’ve always presumed that when a bookmaker blows a big one, he has trouble finding work afterwards, because he just caused someone to lose a lot of money they weren’t expecting to lose. Either the bookmakers have begun selling out, or they were badly suckered by something or someone.
Belatedly, I just googled brexit bookmakers and learned more than I ever wanted to know about the craft. Turns out, according to bookmakers, the odds sort of set themselves in response to the amount of money being bet on either side of an issue, with the bookmaker tweaking those odds a little around the edges to try to maximize his profit. I guess it’s possible he could also tweak those odds for some cash up front, which would maximize his profit, but would drive off future bettors if he was ever found out.
Soros shorting the pound, again.
Pretext for another manufactured 2008 “meltdown”- the Empire strikes back.
Good for them. Their unaccountable annoying bureaucrats will at least be British going forward.
Too bad our Founders didn’t write an exit strategy for the States into the Constitution. They were revolutionaries and probably assumed we could figure it out.
They did, it an inherent basis of rule of law and an escape hatch. Secession is an integral component of the USC, Lincoln and his marxist where genocidal tyrants who ignored a decade of principled peaceful recourse from their tyranny. It is no different today, history is particularly circular in this respect, for we are on the cusp of secession again, except this time it is the dirt people in entirety, their hearts and minds have already abolished the state in it’s current rendition and are undergoing a great gestalt. Read the comments just on Z’s post here. People feel… Read more »
Viva Great Britain! Well done!
Stand by earlier comment. “the people, being “ordinary” would simply prefer to be asked, rather than told”. Interesting that Boris Johnson effectively said just that in his statement this morning.
This is a great event not only for Britain but for many other countries who lack leadership and a positive example. The earth is shifting beneath the feet of the globalists and their childish threats and whining will not change this momentum. Amazing that in all the hubbub about the “reasons” for the LEAVE vote, no one, literally no one in the press is mentioning immigration, islamic terrorism, or freedom. All they seem to talk about is “the markets, the markets,” on the sky is falling. This is a double whammy for Shrillary. First she gets lambasted by Trump which… Read more »
I’m following lots of SJW’s and my twitter feed is full of leftards complaining about “that’s not how democracy is supposed to work ” and are worried about the reaction of “the markets”…classic
When Estonia left the USSR in 1991 they were not leaving Europe, they were just leaving a corrupt political union….same as the UK today.
Maybe this might be a sign that treating citizens like they are little children is not a good idea. The EU always struck me as the bureaucrats in Brussels patting people on the heads and telling them to let the adults handle it. We truly need to get back to personal responsibility and risk taking.
Every great cause begins as a movement, becomes a business, and eventually degenerates into a racket. That’s what happened with trade. The movement to end the use of trade barriers as weapons was laudable. But then trade laws became a way for business to dodge tax, labor and environmental laws. Finally, the EU, TPP, NAFTA, et al became rackets to circumvent popular legislatures.
Great photo commentary! I wondered if it might be a statue of King Alfred, and by god it was. Tim
British Indepenence Day June 23 2016….only 240 years after ours….better late than never…..!!
Against the odds, against every hope, our cousins have shown the world what moral courage looks like.
We are so proud this day.
EU: You can’t do that!
BRITS: We just did.
Has the Queen made known her opinion?
Breitbart has nicked your perception of the global elite as a separate identity.
“These are people, remember, who regardless of their cultural and national background went to the same internationally-renowned universities, interned at the same multinational banks, and attend the same international summits. For them, there really is no difference between the globalist from London and the globalist from Istanbul. They look the same, speak the same, and when they meet, they likely reminisce about the same experiences. From Strasbourg to Dubai to Davos, globalism is a nation unto itself.”
Ha. I think Milo does read me from time to time. I’m not sure, but that’s my impression. A lot of what shows up in legitimate media was borrowed from fringe weirdos like me. Steve Sailer has been the starting for half the people at AEI and National Review for decades now. It’s so obvious sometimes, I suspect money changes hands.
