The word “fascist” has been so abused by the Left that it no longer has much meaning. I’m using it here because it still greatly vexes the Cult. The reason for that is staggering number of similarities between the fascism of a century ago and the Cult of Modern Liberalism. Specifically, to quote Mussolini, “It is the State which educates its citizens in civic virtue, gives them a consciousness of their mission and welds them into unity.”
The fusion between the state and the party is a feature of all Rousseau-ist cults. The first wave of post-colonial African leaders, marinated in Western socialism, started out championing participatory democracy and ended up building one party states. In the 20th century, everywhere a Rousseau-ist cult gained power, they fused their religion with a party and then with the state. We see it today with the American schools, the IRS, the media and the regulatory bureaucracy. Where any of these entities end and the Cult begins is impossible to discern.
That brings me back to our fascist of the week, Rose Eveleth. She is the nasty scold behind the attacks on Rosetta project scientist Matt Taylor. Specifically, she has taken issue with his choice of sport shirt. Of course, what bugs her more than anything is that Matt is a white and male. The Cult’s never ending war on the pale penis people never misses a chance to attack the enemy and this dimwitted skank writing for the Atlantic saw her chance and jumped on it. Much like Gamergate, a surprising amount of push back has come from the nerd-boy community.
Last week, as all of planet Earth was glaring at a suspiciously glossy photo of Kim Kardashian’s unadorned caboose, the entire population of Comet 67P was forced into a humiliating show trial and confession over a cheesecake Hawaiian shirt. But the dark energy of space has now sucked sensitive scolds into a black hole, making Rosetta project scientist Matt Taylor a celebrity and his Gunner Girls shirt a sellout hit.
Atlantic reporter and soi-disant “science nerd” Rose Eveleth laid into Taylor after he did a press appearance wearing a shirt that featured cartoons of scantily clad women brandishing firearms. Such apparel doesn’t just normatize phallocentric gender identities and endanger society by encouraging beautiful half-naked women to fire heavy weapons in our streets. Eveleth asserted that the shirt also makes women feel unsafe in the scientific community.
Though she has a BS from UC-San Diego (in Ecology, Behavior and Evolution), it is not clear how Eveleth, whose MA degree from NYU is in “Science, Health and Environmental Reporting” and who lists “Social Media” and “HTML” among the technical skills in her résumé, can be considered a member of the scientific “community” in the same sense as Taylor, who landed a space probe on a comet 310 million miles from Earth.
Of course she has no science. That’s pretty standard in the fake nerd culture. These are people who dress up like what they think STEM-people look like and declare themselves nerds. It’s a masquerade party for young liberals who want to be different from the prior generation of liberal fanatics. The old guys murdered heretics for the party. The young guys murder heretics for science!
But, science is not why she is working for the Atlantic. Her beat is religion, which is the same beat as every other liberal reporter these days. Get out of line and they pounce on you. As I’m fond of saying, we live in a different sort of Iran. Their morality police have you whipped or stoned for violating their version of Islam. Our religious police ruin your life for violating the morality of the Cult of Modern Liberalism.
If you put Rose Eveleth in a Google machine, you’ll find pics of her she has posted on-line. Before she became the “science-geek” she was kitted out as an “artist.” Once she landed on the science racket, she remade herself to look like the lesbian barista studying for a chem final. The difference is Ms. can’t count her boobs twice and come up with the same number. It’s all an act.
While I agree with you about Eveleth and this whole thing is a non-controversy, I think the science guy is a loser. You know he was all ready to lash out at any said “pale penis people” if they had had the nerve to criticize his body art or wardrobe. Especially if anyone had dared to point out his lack of professionalism. But, when the criticism came from a direction, i.e. feminists, that he didn’t expect, he crumbled like a big blubbering baby. I don’t agree with the tattoos or sloppy attire. I thought the shirt was kind of kitschy… Read more »
Sorry buttercup, but I don’t think the science nerd gives anywhere as much thought to culture de jure as you do. Just a smart guy wearing a gift shirt that was in the “clean” pile of laundry. “Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.”
tripletap: Except he had his answers when asked about the tattoos. Just scroll through all the q&a’s on this conversation with the Wall Street Journal: https://www.facebook.com/wsj/posts/10152913406773128
Also, a google search of Dr. Matt Taylor tattoos shows a lot of stories celebrating his rad tattoos.
If some science nerd can take the heat for his tattoos, can’t he take the heat for a shirt (that wasn’t even offensive)? Except the criticism over the tattoos came from business types, not the cool rad types that he prides himself on being.

Boris Johnson for US President!
Despite the tough guy tatts, he’s not exactly Iron Man: “…breaking down in tears” over a wardrobe malfunction.
He wanted some special attention and he got it.
Public Apology from Matt Taylor
On November 14th, Taylor released a public apology on television, breaking down in tears (shown below). The event was covered by news websites as well, including Daily Mail[9] and The Guardian[10].

Much ado about nothing.
Hipster on hipster violence. Let them eat each other. Wells got it wrong. The Morlocks are not going to eat the Eloi, the Eloi are going to eat the Eloi, after which the Morlocks will rebuild civilization.
