Friends & Enemies

This past week has been an interesting display of mask dropping by many people who have been courting nationalist and populist audiences. As soon as word got out about the Hamas attack, these people immediately reverted to their nature. Social media was like a time machine, taking everyone back to the heady days when it was okay to express some strictly approved hate to the other.

It has been a good example of how people with an agenda can wear your politics like a costume if it furthers their cause. Ben Shapiro will tell you whatever you want to hear as long as you unquestionably support Zionism. Maybe you get some positive noises from his big megaphones, but in the end, his cause will always come before anything he has to tell you in order to get you to support his cause.

Does it help our side if a duplicitous reptile like Ben Shapiro voices opposition to the Left on some issues, but then comes out guns blazing, pointed mostly at our side, when he wants unconditional support for his people? It is not an easy answer. There is no doubt that his operation did some good work on the tranny business, but now he is demanding all that be put aside for another war on behalf of his people.

The Charles Haywood formula would suggest it is best to ignore Shapiro right now, rather than publicly oppose him. No enemies on the right, as Haywood states it, means everyone focus on the main quest, not the side quests. On the other hand, is Ben Shapiro really on the Right? Does he honestly oppose the Left on the things that matter to the genuine opposition? That is an important question.

That is the gist of the show this week. I wrote about this, and I got some interesting feedback, so I thought I would expand on it in the show. Partisanship is not something that comes easy to the Right. There is a natural empiricism to any politics that opposes what we call the Left. That works against partisanship, which often demands accepting the inaccurate in pursuit of larger goals.

Let’s Talk About Politics

The ouster of Kevin McCarthy is one of those things that quickly gets internalized, despite its novelty, because the media machine operates like a hype man for a professional wrestling operation. It turns everything into trashy daytime drama, so even an important thing becomes just another poo-flinging contest between professional media partisans. As a result, it loses all meaning.

In the fullness of time, we may look back at it as one of those cracks that appeared in a system that was about to collapse. Think back to the downfall of Speaker Jim Wright in the late 1980’s and what followed. Like McCarthy, Wright was not very popular, but he was a system man who would not rock the boat. The trouble was the old system was no longer sustainable as the world outside was changing.

In the case of Wright, there was a new generation coming along and there was the final leg of the political realignment that started in the 1970’s. In the case of McCarthy there is a generational change and the radicalization of politics. The days of playing the old Republican Party tricks are coming to an end. McCarthy’s “say one thing and do another” approach is no longer going to work for the GOP.

The thing not getting enough attention is the fact that the Democrats were willing to let him swing rather than cut a deal. Maybe it was pure partisan spite or just incompetence, but they left money on the table in order to avoid being seen by their donors and voters making a deal with the other side. Even the dumbest Republican had to notice the unanimity of their “friends across the aisle.”

This McCarthy business suggests Washington may be reaching one of those inflection points like 1994 or 1974. The baby boomer generation is about to leave the stage just as the world is changing rapidly. When Speaker Wright was toppled, the boomers were ready to take over as the Cold War was coming to an end. As the millennials are taking over, the Global American Empire is coming to an end.

What Is Possible

It is fair to say that political philosophy, as we currently think it, is the search for the ideal or best form of government. Even now, at the end of history, when all of the best people are sure we have figure out that “our democracy” is the ideal form of government, there are heretics thinking about what could be better. It is hard to image what could be better than “our democracy” but they are imagining it.

Of course, even the best people must concede that there must be something better as otherwise there could be no progress. The only way we stop progress is by reaching the end of time which is the perfection human society. Once we reach that point, no one will imagine there can be anything better, so there is no longer a need for political science, political philosophy or even politics.

While we are progressing toward something, it very clearly is not the perfection of mankind and human society. Instead we are ruled by lunatics and simpletons hellbent on smashing what is left of Western society. The more likely answer to what comes next is chaos and then some effort to impose order. Therefore the question of political science will be what sort of order is possible.

What form of government is possible with the demographics we have and will have in the not too distant future? Will it be possible to have a general answer to that question for all regions of North America. Lilly white Vermont will have very different answers than highly diverse Georgia. Mexifornia cannot have the same answers as New England or states in the black belt.

One answer is that there is no system that can provide order, at least with the ingredients that we have in terms of people, history, geography and so on, so those will have to change. This is the recipe for civil war. The result of that process will then frame what is possible with what remains. The political questions then become, what is possible and what must happen to have tolerable options.

Dissident Happiness

This week is one of those shows where I just turn on the mic and talk for an hour off the top of my head without knowing where I am going with it. Some people think these are the best shows, but I am skeptical. The inspiration for the show is a post I did earlier in the week behind the green door. The topic of that post was the difficulty enjoying old movies and television as a dissident.

Once you are aware of why Jake from State Farm is a black guy now, you see the tentacles of the people behind it in all sorts of things. Those old movies you enjoyed a million years ago suddenly look different to you. You notice the little bits of subversion in them that has led to where we are now. You cannot enjoy them as you once did because you see what you did not see the first time.

Thinking about it, this extends to other things. Once your eyes are opened to certain things, you turn into Roddy Randy Piper from They Live. You keep putting on the dissident classes, seeing things that maybe you wished you had not seen, but you cannot stop doing it. In the show I used the example of Ronald Reagan, who many here no doubt grew up thinking of as a great president.

This may not sound too bad, but it does bring the risk of turning the dissident into someone incapable of feeling joy. You cannot watch a movie or television show without getting angry about the subversion. A mindless thing like a sporting event turns into another arena of the great struggle. If you are not careful, you cut yourself off from your fellow citizens with regards to the popular culture.

More important, you can find yourself at war with the past. For left-wing radicals, this is a good thing as they want to be free of the past. Normie, of course, wants to return to some mythical place in the past. Dissidents do not want to be free of the past, but have an honest relationship with it, in order to figure out what comes next. This is a unique challenge to the modern dissident.

By Whose Authority?

One of the curiosities of this age is that no one ever asks the simplest of questions when faced with a social justice warrior. That question is “Who says?” Given that our society is drenched in moralizing, it seems like a good question. After all, any demands about what you ought to do have to come with a moral authority. The reason you must do something or not do something is because X says so.

What makes this even weirder is the taboos are not passed down to us from some ancient source that we no longer remember. The prohibition against making crossdresser jokes was made up a few years ago. The taboo on noticing things about group behavior dates back to the last century. It seems logical that people would want to know by whose authority these things are now taboo.

Maybe that is why the taboos proliferate. The explosion of things that are now prohibited or required is a form of squid ink. Keeping everyone busy sorting through the latest rules keeps them from asking this basic question. The reason for this is there is no adequate answer to this question. The moral code of what we call our democracy rests on nothing more than an empty space where God and tradition existed.

On the other hand, maybe this is just the natural end point of the process that got going in the late Middle Ages. The search for a rational explanation for normative claims like justice and equality has led us to the madness of this age. Since reason cannot be a moral authority, we have created something like the Krebs cycle that throws off novel taboos through the destruction of inherited traditions and customs.

It could also be that humans are moral animals. Common morality is what is needed to hold a large society together, so extreme selection pressure has been in favor of those who naturally assume there is a moral authority for a moral claim. Perhaps most of us are bred to never ask who says? Those who lack this natural instinct and dare ask this question end up thinking about it on the fringes of society.

The Social Gospel Hour

I mentioned in a previous episode that I might do a show on the Social Gospel Movement so I thought it would be a good topic to start the fall season. When I sat down to put the show together it occurred to me that there was another way to talk about the topic other than describing the people and ideas. After all, the only reason to care about this is for how it still casts a shadow over the present day.

Instead of doing a history type show I went in another direction. One of things that is striking when you read about the Social Gospel Movement is just how much of their language is with us today. In the show I point out that if you remove the references to God and Scripture, these people would sound like our current scolds. They would be demanding Musk ban me from Twitter.

That is one point of the show for those who will not listen. The present lunacy we are experiencing is not due to some bug in the system or the work of alien outsiders exploiting our kindness. The modern Social Justice Warrior is a uniquely American thing, the full flowering of part of the American character. That blue haired crazy at the office is more American than anyone in the dissident right.

That is not an easy thing for people to accept because it means the problem is far different from what is comfortable. It means there is no simple answer. We do not just have to win an election and then ban CRT in the schools. We do not just have to get back to our constitutional principles. Those simple answers are not answers, but ways to avoid looking at the real problem, which is in the mirror.

Talkin’ Bout My Generation

After a week of stellar posting inspired by a trip to American Renaissance, I thought a show on generational stuff would be a good way to finish the week. It is also a good show to do before a summer vacation. With two weeks left of summer, I am going to take the next two weeks off from the show. I have some things that I want to get done before the fall, so it means making some time in the schedule.

The post earlier in the week about the Zoomers and specifically the Fuentes cult got me thinking about other issues related to generational topics. Something I did not mention in my show is the fact that the Zoomers are about to be elbowed off the stage in the next year or two by Generation Alpha. I am told this is the label for the kids who are currently in high school at the moment.

It would take a heart of stone not to laugh at the thought of Fuentes and his crew suddenly finding themselves as geezers in pop culture terms. I look forward to the Alphas calling him a Zoomer-Boomer as a way to indicate he is an old man while they are the young happening future. Maybe we also get an Alpha version of the groypers turning up in comment sections to heckle the Zoomers.

Putting that aside, the Alphas will be the first diverse generation. They will be majority-minority, so the media will love them. The face of this generation will be a trans lesbian of color immigrant transvestite. Nothing screams the glorious future like a young mentally unstable genetic dead end. Maybe they should be called Omegas, as they may be the last generation for the circus known as America.

Tragedy Of Managerialism

The inspiration for the show this week is the ongoing collapse of college football due to the financialization of the sport. I do not consume much sportsball these days, but I will watch a college football game. It was always my favorite sport to watch on television and it is now the only sport I can watch at all. The rest are human flea circuses woven within hours of commercials and agit-prop.

The appeal of college football has always been the variety. Each regional conference has its own traditions, rivalries, history and style of play. All of it was organic, having evolved with the leagues and the teams over time. The schools themselves have weird customs and traditions that often exist for reasons no one remembers. What people know is those traditions are important.

The same people behind all of the other problems have been gnawing away at these traditions for the usual reasons. They look at our culture and wonder how they can turn it into a quick buck and then into something vulgar. That is what is happening to college football through the lure of television money. As a result, it is becoming the same degenerate circus as the rest of entertainment.

There is another aspect here. This is much easier due to the domination of the hired man in all aspects of modern life. Managerialism is rule by a committee of people looking for a better job. They have no investment in the current job, other than what they need to do in order to maximize their return. It is a form of tragedy of the commons, except we pretend it is free market capitalism.

College football is dying because it is run by people who always leave the car running in the parking lot and carry a suitcase with them. If anything goes wrong, they know the way to the nearest airport or border crossing. Anything run by men who do not expect to be around very long is never going to last. All of their decisions are in the near term, as this is the extent of their interaction with the enterprise.

The Greeks say a healthy society is one where old men plant trees in whose shade they will never rest. The Global American Empire is denuded of trees because no one thinks about who comes next. This also explains youth culture. Everyone pretends to be forever young so they never have to think about who will tend their grave. Ours is a society of visitors run by aliens.

Terrible Choices

Most online political commentary is either analysis of what is happening in the world or dire predictions about where things are heading. The response is often some form of “Well, what can we do about it?” On this side of the great divide, this is usually a rhetorical question, as the person asking knows what he wants to do. He wants to get himself and the site on an FBI watch list.

As we see with the lawfare against Trump, the regime is determined to do what it likes and there is nothing that can be done about it. The best Republicans are cowards, while most are sociopathic criminals. The former mews about what is happening, while the latter claps and cheers on their friends across the aisle. The two-party system is just two faces of the same monster we call the regime.

That means the formal tools citizens have to affect politics are useless. You can vote yourself silly but the system gets worse. In fact, this is exactly what has been happening the last couple of decades. The system gets worse, so more people get engaged in elections, but that makes things worse. Record turnout in 2020 gave us a deranged old men run by the Kagan cult.

Even so, people still think in terms of elections, so the show this week dives into what would be required to use the system to reform the system. Then we get into the informal tools that can be used to effect change. These are not great choices. There is not a lot of joy to be found in the options that are available to us. The reason is a system in crises is one that leaves open only the terrible choices.

Reparations

One of the things to look forward to in the next election will be Gavin Newsome lecturing Tim Scott on the importance of reparations. This assumes Tim Scott will be told to oppose the idea by the party. By next fall reparations could be an ancient conservative principle so we could see a contest between the two parties over who is promising the bigger reparations check.

Either way, it is a safe bet that the subject will be mainstream by next year. The effort to normalize the idea has been going on since the George Floyd riots. California is working on a reparations report. The idea is to release a big official looking study that will be the basis for the following debate. This was popular back in the middle of the last century whenever the progressives were plotting shenanigans.

Part of the plot will be a role for white people to play in the manufactured drama that will play out on cable television and the internet. Sean Hannity will take a week off for a new firmware update and come back with a new set of lapel pins and a new vocabulary to oppose the idea of reparations. It will be the old Washington Generals routine that is the defining feature of the so-called conservative movement.

Despite having a compliant opposition, it will not be easy for the regime. While most blacks support the idea of robbing their white neighbors, a large percentage oppose the idea, probably sensing it is a bridge too far. It is one thing to send whitey off to a reeducation class every year. He is still being paid to attend the DIE training. It is quite another to take food off his kid’s plate.

The bigger problem is it will put the lie to the race issue. If you demand money from whites to make blacks whole, then whites are going to assume this either closes the books on race or it is just an act of vengeance. Either way, it means unshackling white people from the guilt of racism. White people either pay the debt, so no more demands, or they see that the debt can never be paid, and it is time to move on.
