The Roots Of Our Madness

By the time you are reading this, I will be winging my way out of Lagos to Nashville Tennessee for the annual American Renaissance conference. Those of you who will be attending, I look forward to meeting you. I will be easy to find. For those not attending, I will be positing about it over the weekend. It is just Friday and Saturday, so I’ll probably post something Saturday and then something when I get back on Sunday.

This year there is a bit of a youth movement, as many of the speakers are quite young, but maybe it will be good to have some youth on the roster. The crowd will be close to a record, so maybe the young speakers are drawing in a young crowd. There will be some old timers in the mix, as well, so it is not a children’s crusade. It will be good practice for me at being an old man in a room full of rotten kids.

This week’s show is a little different. I like to keep things fresh, so the format is a bit different, mostly due to the fact I could only think of five sub-topics. The genesis of this week’s theme was something John Derbyshire covered in his podcast last week. He talked about quantifying the degree of craziness in this age. I’m taking a shot at explaining the causes of the present lunacy. You can catch John’s show here.

The Democratic Field

I like to try out new things once in a while, mostly because I’m still not sure what works best for this type of podcast. Writing is a different experience than speaking. What works for a blog post will not work for a podcast. The old saying in legacy media is that radio is a hot medium and television is a cool medium. That is, you need to be fierier on radio to keep an audience, while on television you need to be calmer. No one wants to see a madman ranting and raving in their living room, so you have to appear calm.

I suspect the same rules apply to new media. Within the podcast domain, some things will work better than others, because the media is more intimate. Most people consume this product by their lonesome. That’s why I try new things all the time. I’m figuring out what works in this format and what I like doing. This week, for example, I’m breaking from the normal format to run through all of the Democrat candidates. No breaks. It’s also a much more casual show than normal. These freaks are too weird to take them seriously.

That really is the thing that jumps out when you start looking at these people and their campaigns. None of them should be dog catcher in a small town. It’s ridiculous that any of them running for President. I suspect when the revolution comes, the reason will be that decent people simply got fed up pretending that this stuff is anything but an insult to the dignity of the people. The other thing is this is highly orchestrated. The system actively selects for these people. This freak show is what our rulers want to see.

Fringe Politics

I like to mix things up to keep it fresh, so this week I’m doing a show on some of the more fringe aspects of the dissident right. Even though these political movements don’t get a lot of discussion, they have had a lot of influence on outsider politics in America and in Europe. Some of the things that you hear in alt-right circles, for example, come from National Bolshevism and Archeofuturism. Even if you are not interested in signing onto a fringe political movement, knowing something about them can be useful.

This is a topic I have been looking forward to doing for a while now. I’ve had some exposure to all of these at one time or another, but I had to take some time to get reacquainted with much of it. It’s fascinating to me how some ideologies don’t change all that much. The Third Position guys, for example, have been pretty much the same since I first encountered them as a kid. Even though the Cold War is a fading memory, there are people out there still viewing the world in terms of the old Left and old Right.

The segment on Archeofuturism is probably the most salient. I’m not someone who comes from that school of thought, but Guillaume Faye is probably the one “right-wing” thinker in the last couple of generations to seriously re-think what it means to be on the Right. He is certainly one of the few who moved his focus up the great chain of causality from institutions to biology and culture. Most of the conventional Right has gone the other way, falling into the gutter of libertarian economics. Faye is a guy worth reading again.

One administrative note. I did a long interview with the guys at Identity Dixie this week and the results will be posted on their site this upcoming week. I think I will be doing a post on the topic of Southern Nationalism at some point, but their site has a lot of interesting stuff on the topic. They did a podcast with the Ensign Hour guys, a Canadian nationalist podcast, that was quite interesting. There is a surprising amount of overlap between Southern nationalism and Canadian nationalism. If you have time it is worth a listen.

A Trip Through Crazy Land

I’ve been doing a lot of serious stuff lately, so this week I wanted to take a break and do some lighter material. The daily outrages you get from the news can often conceal the absurdity of the world imposed on us. The people in charge are every bit as clownish and ridiculous as we think, maybe more so. It’s not they are wrong or are mistaken. They are ridiculous people with a diminishing grasp on reality. Their ridiculousness is often amusing, so we should take some time on occasion to enjoy the freak show for what it is.

Normally, I start with the Huffington Post when looking for goofy stories. They never disappoint, but there is a whole other world out there of left-wing craziness too, so I get into some of that this week. Whenever you think the Left cannot get more ridiculous, always remember they can find another gear. Crazy has no limits. It’s also good to remember that current absurdities used to be confined to obscure websites. In other  words, today’s freak show will most likely be tomorrow’s normal.

Looking for content this week, the one thing that kept jumping out is most of it is driven by women and homosexual males. This is not a new observation, but it probably does not get enough attention, outside of some precincts in the man-o-sphere. These freaks we see are just desperate for attention and they will do anything for it. As our political class gets more feminine and gay, our politics gets more freakish and absurd. It explains why dissident politics is very male and very trad female.

Letters To Z-Man

Back around Thanksgiving last year I did a whole show just answering questions from the e-mail and people liked it. I read all my e-mail, but not in a timely fashion. I try to sit down once per week and go through the inbox, but life does not always cooperate. My work life is conducted by e-mail. That means I spend a lot of my time reading and replying to e-mail during the day, so I lose track of my personal stuff. Doing a show once in a while just on e-mail and other correspondence is a good way for me to catch up on it.

What I did is group these by topic and then make a general e-mail out of them in order to cloak any revealing details of the correspondents. That seems like a fair thing to do as I don’t want to get anyone in trouble. I get a lot of e-mail and comments, so a lot of stuff did not make it. I should probably do a post once per month just on correspondence as a regular feature. I think I tried that once before, but I may be mistaken. I’ve written so many posts that I’m starting to forget some of the things I’ve done over the years.

This is Good Friday, so Happy Easter to my Christian readers and listeners. It is also the start of Passover, so Happy Passover to my Jewish readers and listeners. Perhaps it is just me, but it seems like Easter is not what it used to be these days. When I was a kid, the grocery store would be full of Easter themed items. I noticed my market just had one little area with Easter and Passover items. Perhaps people just don’t do the baskets and candy stuff anymore. Maybe it is just something about Lagos I’m just noticing.

One other housekeeping item. I will be on the RamZPaul show tomorrow. He invited me and Frodi Midjord on to talk about some of the things we discussed in Finland at the Awakening conference. I don’t think there is a fixed agenda, but the general these is about how we go about organizing and networking in the age of mass suppression. Frodi has his ideas on these things as a European organizer and I have my thoughts as an American, who is always dodging the censors. It should be a good conversation.

April Grab Bag

One of the things I don’t like about taking time away is that it seems to take me almost as long to get back into the swing of things. I get back from vacation with things stacked up from before I left and I’m not in the right frame of mind yet to get anything done. By the end of that first week back, I feel like I need another vacation, because I’m working twice as hard to get half the stuff done. I’m really looking forward to the weekend so I can get caught up on everything and get back to my normal schedule and routine.

When you travel, you learn things, but not always what you expect. For example, I got to spend time with Ed Dutton, the English anthropologist who teaches at the University of Oulu in Finland. He mentioned in passing that I have an odd voice, by which he meant different from most Americans. Some others said the same thing, which still puzzles me a bit, but I suspect it is just a European thing. They have certain expectations for how Americans should sound and I fall outside of that set of expectations.

I must admit though, it is a strange thing to be halfway around the world and have someone comes up to you and say they recognize your voice. We live in amazing age in many respects. People in our thing all over the world can communicate with one another over the internet to such an extent we don’t think much about it. I have listeners in Estonia, which is amazing when you stop and think about it. To think this connectedness is not having profound changes on human society is a major mistake.

Another bad thing about the first week back is spring time has hit Lagos, which means tons of pollen in the air. I’ve never had allergies, but when I moved here some local shrub must not sit well with me, as I have a week every year where my throat feels like sandpaper and my eyes are irritated. This is that week, so I may sound ever odder than normal. I tried to tinker with the audio to clean it up, but that never turns out well, so there are a few stretched where the audio is not as good as it should be.

Right Wing Economics

Sometimes I sit down to write a post with an idea of what I want to say, but a third of the way through I realize I’m going to make a different point. For me, posting is really just a form of thinking out loud. Sometimes that means taking what started writing, saving it for later and starting over with my new set of thoughts in mind. More than a few posts have gone this way, shattering into two or more posts.

This rarely happens with the podcast, because I actually do some prep for it. I start on the weekend, thinking about a theme for the week. I’ll then come up with ideas for each segment and then a outline those. I don’t use a script, but that outline is like a set of notes for when I record the segment. That way I don’t meander around too much and I don’t forget the points I wanted to make. It’s not professional, but it works for me.

This week, I got about halfway through I realized I should have done the show different that I set out to do it. For example, I could probably do a whole show on taxes from the classical right-wing perspective. Distributionism really does need a whole show on it and I could probably do a few shows on guys like de Maistre, Belloc and Chesterton. In other words, the topic was too big for one hour, so it is way too superficial.

The trouble is, unlike a blog post, there is a point of no return with these things. A typical blog post consumed 30 minutes of my time. The podcast takes about ten hours to put together each week. There’s no turning back once I get to recording, so I had to go with what I had planned. It’s not cats singing Jingle Bells, but it is certainly one of the topics that will get a do-over in the future. Maybe I’ll call it a prequel.

February Grab Bag

Maybe it is just me, but there seems to be an edge to everything of late, like everyone is a little madder about things than normal. I feel it in myself, which is why I have decided to decouple from the news entirely next week. I suspect it has something to do with the Jusse Smollett story. Not in a direct way, as no one is surprised by the result. Well, the media is pretending to be surprised, but no one else. This is one of those events where there is the above the waterline story and a below the waterline story.

The above the waterline part is the fact that everyone knew it was a hoax and the people in charge bothered to acknowledge it. Usually, these hoaxes get broomed and the only people following them are the weirdos who cater to the woke Dirt People. Without Steve Sailer, no one would know about Haven Monahan. Heck, most people still do not get the reference, or they have forgotten it, along with the whole story. That is how good the media is at controlling the minds of most Americans. Propaganda works.

The below the waterline story is that Smollett is going to get away with it. Some BoomerCons will wave around this petty charge as vindication, like they are doing with Trump’s fake wall declaration, but people on our side know better. If it had been two white guys attacking a black, they would be facing life in prison. This clown, who cost the city millions and perpetuated this blood libel against whites, will end up with probation and a boost in his career. Notice he has not been fired from his job yet.

A growing anger is the price for people becoming aware of what is happening to them, but it makes for a tense environment. A lot of CivNats are slowly realizing they have been conned, duped by people they trusted. This is not America, at least not the America with laws, rules, and equal justice. We are a lot closer to where the Russians were 40 years ago than where America was 40 years ago. That is both scary and infuriating, but that is inevitable as our people wake up from the American Dream.

The Tribal Circus

Like a lot of people, I am struggling to remain positive this week, after Trump once again blundered into making things worse on the immigration front. I think it is fair to wonder if he was not a Manchurian candidate all along. Hired by the usual suspects to pose as a populist, he was supposed to discredit anti-immigration arguments in the primary by presenting them poorly. Instead, voters were willing to look past his ham-fisted presentation, in order to make one last effort to avoid tipping into the abyss.

Now in office, the usual suspects have flipped some other switches in his programming so that he engineers these colossal legislative defeats. That is a joke, I think, but you have to wonder what Trump would do different if he was actually trying to sabotage his own presidency. He is now everything we expected from Jeb Bush, except for two judges that may be OK. I guess you can call the new NAFTA a win, but that is not the great departure from the prior regime that Trump has claimed. It is more tinkering than repeal.

Still, it is easy to gobble black pills, but that is not very useful. Trump was never the solution to the problems facing us. At best he was just going to be a wrecker, who discredited the prevailing political orthodoxy, so we should always set our expectations accordingly. It is also important to remember that the orthodoxy is not just the civic nationalist face we tend to see. The creature behind that Republican mask is the Progressive side of the orthodoxy, which is the Grendel in our saga.

That is the focus on this week’s show. In order to keep it light, I am taking a long look at the Democrat primary that is shaping up. We forget that the party actually wielding power, regardless of who is in office, is the Democrat party. They set the agenda, and they control the Republican Party. The health of the Democrats is a good indication of just how effective the current vaccines are to the poz they are trying to spread. This podcast is a rundown of the Democrat tribes and the characters vying to be the new chief.

Beautiful Losers

The response to last week’s show was interesting, in that I got a few queries about people I mentioned from the old days. I have noticed this before whenever I talk about the paleocons and their battles with the neocons in the 80’s and 90’s. Everyone knows about the neocons, at least they think they do, but the paleos seem to be fading from memory as they fade from the scene. It is a case of the winners writing the history books, so I thought a show about the paleocons would be something worth doing.

The original plan was to do a segment on the various people who made up movement, maybe read from their best work, but that would have been too long and too boring. I like doing these sorts of episodes, but this is not a history podcast. What I settled on is the formula I have used for other episodes. What is interesting to me about the paleos is they were right about a lot of things, especially their own flaws, but they failed anyway. It is a great example of how having the facts on your side is not enough.

Putting the show together, what struck me is just how much overlap there is between the alt-right and the paleos. Despite this, you never hear the alt-right talk about these guys or credit them for their ideas. There is an anti-intellectualism to the alt-right that is maybe a reaction to the academic aesthetic of the paleos. We have a library full of writing by the paleocons, while the alt-right has dated livestreams and podcasts. Given how things worked out, maybe that is a good thing, but it is something to consider.
