A Winter Mélange

This week, putting the podcast together, was a bit of a scramble. Each Sunday, I sit down and clean up my notes for the blog and the podcast. I keep a running list of stories and ideas that pop into my head. The stuff I’ve done on the blog or in the podcast gets purged and then I organize the rest. Most weeks I know what I want to write about for the week, but I leave open the option to go where events take me.

For the podcast, since it takes some time to record and edit, I try to get a head start on Sunday and think about what I want to rant about the following week. I’ll put the Xirl science stuff together, for example, on Sunday. I may even record it if I’m practicing some editing stuff. This week, starting on Sunday, I was drawing a blank. Not too much jumped out to me as worthy topics. It finally came together as a mélange of items.

My mind naturally wants to have each podcast organized around a theme. Maybe not every segment, but the bulk of them. It’s an odd tick, but it is just how my brain is wired. I like order and symmetry. Sometimes that is not possible, so i just have to accept that the perfect is the enemy of the good enough. This week, a collection of unrelated items is good enough, at least I hope it is good enough. Time will tell.

This week I have the usual variety of items in the now standard format. Spreaker has the full show. I’ll be posting clips on Gab for the ADD listeners. I am up on Google Play now, so the Android commies can take me along when out disrespecting the country. I am on iTunes, which means the Apple Nazis can listen to me on their Hitler phones. Of course, the Hitler Phones are so slow now, you may never finish.

Lots Of Immigration

This week I’m trying out some new ideas and some new material. I’m thinking about a weekly segment on ghetto life. These are always popular posts, so maybe it will work as a regular segment on the podcast. I’m sort of the Dian Fossey of the Dissident Right, so people are interested in my observations. The ghetto posts always get a lot of traffic so we’ll see if works as a podcast segment. No, it will not be replacing the Afro-Futurism segments. More of a complement.

The other thing I’m adding is a history segment. I get a lot of comments about history related posts, especially if they tie into present events. I’m a big fan of history podcasts, so maybe this is something that will work for me. Maybe I have a calling about which I am unaware. I’ve got a lot of material stocked away for use in future posts, so my cup runneth over as far as material. I’m doing a short bit this week so, we’ll see.

I am dropping the clips from YouTube. It is a lot of work and very few people preferred the bite sized version. Instead, I will post them on Gab over the course of the week. I’m still feeling my way through how to distribute and promote a podcast. One thing I’ve learned is YouTube is best for video. The channels without lots of graphics, or someone looking out from the monitor, get little traffic.

Simple Madness

This is the first podcast of the year and my first podcast with any serious audio editing. I decided over the holidays that I needed to tighten things up a bit and that means learning how to edit the podcast after recording. I believe this is what the professionals call post-production. That’s when things are cleaned and unnecessary pauses and weird background noises are edited out of the show.

Until now, I have just made some notes for each segment and rambled on for about ten minutes or five minutes, depending upon the bit. I would then edit out the obvious stuff, but that was it. One of the strange side effects of doing a podcast is you spend a lot of time listening yourself. My gross lack of professionalism and all too frequent hemming and hawing have started to bug me so I’m determined to up my game this year.

This week I have the usual variety of items in the now standard format. Spreaker has the full show. YouTube has the four longer segments from the show. I am up on Google Play now, so the Android commies can take me along when out disrespecting the country. I am on iTunes, which means the Apple Nazis can listen to me on their Hitler phones.

Happy New Year Podcast

I decided to do the very first New Year’s podcast while stinking drunk and staggering around outside with strangers. It is the tradition, after all, to get obliterated on December 31st, waiting for the calendar to change. Well, I can only assume, as I have not been outside, much less partying, on New Year’s Eve in decades.

In fact, I don’t recall the last time I was up past midnight on the big night. I’m not really sure why I have no interest in the custom. I like drinking and I like staying up late, but I never got into ringing in the new year. In my youth it just seemed like a lot of work to accomplish very little, so I was never interested in it. Instead, I’d watch some Three Stooges reruns and make it an early night..

Happy Kwanzaa!

Welcome to a special Kwanzaa edition of The Z-Blog! Every year, I have done a post to celebrate this joyous holiday and now that I have a podcast, I decided to add a special Kwanzaa edition podcast to the mix. I hope everyone is celebrating the most important day on the Afrocentric calendar. Here in Lagos on the Chesapeake, we spend the day contemplating the errors we made that led us to living in the murder capital of America. Here are some items to kick off your Kwanzaa celebrations.

The Christmas Podcast

This is the very first Christmas podcast, or Solstice podcast for the weirdos in the audience. The sort of material I like doing does not lend itself well to a Christmas theme, but I did weave some holiday related material in where appropriate. I’ve also been trying to improve my post-production skills. I know nothing about audio editing, but I am learning. The results are a little hit and miss this week.

I will put a Gab extra this week, mostly because I recorded it and decided not to use it in the regular podcast. I’m still thinking about how to use the Gab video service, but I’m pretty sure I will be doing some data-based presentations there in 2018. I think that might work. I will also be posting a special Kwanzaa podcast on the 26th, so make sure you check your Hitler phones for that next week.

This week I have the usual variety of items in the now standard format. Spreaker has the full show. YouTube has the four longer segments from the show. I am up on Google Play now, so the Android phone commies can take me along when out disrespecting the country. I am on iTunes, which means the Apple Nazis can listen to me on their Hitler phones.

The Winter Of Our Discontent

Old man winter has come to Lagos on the Chesapeake. Northern Europeans would often describe the world on the other side as a bleak winter-scape. It makes sense. For them, winter was the scariest time of the year. There was the cold and people huddled indoors, spreading their germs. The food situation in winter was, until recent, a constant concern for northern people.

That said, I generally like winter. When I lived in New Hampshire, the cold quiet nights were strangely pleasant. It’s always very quiet when the temperatures dip down near zero at night. I don’t mind the snow either. Shoveling has become less fun in my dotage, but the exercise is good for me so I don’t mind it. I’m not sure I could live in a place without some chance of an honest winter.

Suzy Sunshine

As we descend into the darkness of winter, I’m taking this week to walk on the sunny side of the street. I’ve noticed that my mood tends toward the grim as the days get shorter, so I make an effort to remain upbeat and shake off the natural sense of despair a normal man feels this time of year.

This week I have the usual variety of items in the now standard format. There is no bonus track on Gab this week.  I’m too busy and I’m not all that sure anyone is listening to those segments.  I’m thinking up something different to do on Gab to support the cause.

For this week, Spreaker has the full show. YouTube has the four longer segments from the show. I am up on Google Play now, so the Android phone commies can take me along when out disrespecting the country. I am on iTunes, which means the Apple Nazis can listen to me on their Hitler phones.

Welcome Back Z-Man

It is good to be back in full swing. One of the things I’m learning about the podcasting thing is I need to take breaks. It’s easy to start hating it when I’m doing one every week. It takes maybe ten hours each week to put it together, but I have lots of other things in my life so those ten hours can start to feel precious. It’s a short trip from there to feeling like it is a chore or even a burden.

That means there is the temptation to take short cuts or get into easy routines. Taking some breaks is a good way to keep it fresh and fun. That last part is most important to me, since this is just a hobby. What I found with the blog is taking a couple days off each week keeps it fun. My hunch is the trick with podcasting is to take half a dozen weeks off during the year. That way, it remains a fun hobby that I enjoy doing well.

This week I have the usual variety of items in the now standard format. There is also a bonus track on Gab, where I talk about the relative size of audiences.  If you are not on Gab, you should be. Despite their flaws, they are the good guys fighting to keep the lamps from going out in the West.

For this week, Spreaker has the full show. YouTube has the four longer segments from the show. I am up on Google Play now, so the Android phone commies can take me along when out disrespecting the country. I am on iTunes, which means the Apple Nazis can listen to me on their Hitler phones.

Heading Out

This week the show is a bit lighter, as I’m preparing for some much needed time off. I always take time off around Thanksgiving. Given that I’ve been burning the candle at both ends for most of the year, I’m really looking forward to some down time. Between the podcast and blogging, my media empire is a solid 20+ hours per week of effort. The podcast takes about ten hours each week, give or take, when I add it all up. Blogging and responding to comments takes up about the same amount of time. it’s not a full-time job, but it is in addition to my full-time job.

I’m not complaining. I enjoy doing this as a hobby so its not like it is work, but it can become a bit of grind. I can tell that my material has become a little flat over the last month or so as my batteries drain down, so I’m taking next week off. There will be no podcast and posting will be lighter than usual. I’m planning to stay off social media too. Things like Twitter and Gab are what you make of them, but it is a good idea to unplug on occasion.

This week I have the usual variety of items in the now standard format. One thing I plan to do is think about the format during the break, but for now it remains the same. There is also a bonus track on Gab, where I talk about some current events and why we are lucky to be living in this age.
