The Five Olds

My guess is John Derbyshire and Ethnark from FTN are the only two people to catch the meaning of the show title this week. It came to me while reading some of the comments to my post earlier in the week on the wealth tax. It reminded me that dissident politics is a much more radical venture than previous opposition movements in that it requires an entirely new moral framework. It’s not just about getting some things in the law changed or better behavior from the people in power. It is a cultural revolution.

At least it aspires to be one. Failure is always an option, particularly when it comes to social movements. The people in charge could start sweeping up bad thinkers and sending us off to camps. For now though, it is about discrediting a lot of old ideas about how we relate to one another, society and our government. That’s not an easy thing as all of us have grown up marinated in the morality of the Left, along with the moral scolding of the so-called Right. Civic nationalism and Progressive morality are all we know.

What I decided to do is focus this week on various old ideas, customs, habits and so forth that no longer fit the present age, It’s not a one hour show detailing a new moral philosophy, but a show picking apart the old habits of mind. I’m most certainly going to be writing about some of these topics in the future, as I think topics like tax policy offer a great way to question (and disrupt!) the old modes of thought. Sadly, I was not able to work in the phrase “invisibilize the unmentionables” this week. Maybe next week.

This week I have the usual variety of items in the now standard format. Spreaker has the full show. I am up on Google Play now, so the Android commies can take me along when out disrespecting the country. I am on iTunes, which means the Apple Nazis can listen to me on their Hitler phones. The anarchists can catch me on iHeart Radio. YouTube also has the full podcast. Of course, there is a download link below. I have been de-platformed by Spotify, because they feared I was poisoning the minds of their Millennial customers.

Weirdos

After a week of outrages, more than a week actually, I thought it would be good to do something a little lighter this week. I have been getting requests for Xirl Science, so this week we have that and some other weird stuff I found. Sometimes, you need to take a break from the serious stuff. Otherwise, you become one of those rage heads, who is constantly lecturing people all the time about how the world is going to hell. This week is a show featuring weirdos, goofballs and people I like to mock.

The thing that often gets lost on this side of the great divide is that we have one thing working in our favor. We’re right. More important, the people on the other side are not just mistaken. Most of them are crazy. That coalition of fringes, as Sailer likes to put it, is actually a freak show where morality is inverted. They have power, but reality is undefeated. Their battle against reality can only end one way. It’s okay for our side to take some pleasure in watching that freak show..

The Winter World Tour

When you start doing something like a podcast, you quickly discover that there is a whole new world of technical skill that you have taken for granted. Audio engineering has been around since the dawn of radio, but no one thinks much about it. We just expect radio to sound a certain way and audio for TV and movies to sound a certain way. Probably the closest we come to thinking about it is when stetting up a home theater or adding a sub-woofer to the sound system. Otherwise, there is no reason to think about it.

Start doing a podcast and you are suddenly made aware of this hidden world. One of the things on my 2019 list is to learn more about this dark art, in order to make the show sound better and more professional. I just acquired some new gear this week and this is the first show applying some new skills. Removing background noise or “room sound” is something I have added to the skillset. I also got better at removing those little breaths you can sometimes hear as I’m reading something from a news story of post.

Doing the editing with quality headphones was a learning experience. When I did that, I realized that the final product sounds a lot different to what comes from the speakers on my computer. They say headphones give a better sound quality, but I’ve never liked listening to anything through headphones. It’s why I use bone induction headsets for travel. Most people probably consume podcasts through headphones, so I figure I should optimize the sound for that way of listening to audio.

Another thing I’ve learned by listening through headphones is the stinger, that little explosion sound at the end of segments, sounds terrible. Through speakers, it sounds fine, but through headphones ti is awful. This weekend I will be auditioning new stinger clips for the show. Since the software I use allows for the creation of sound effects, I’ll use this as an opportunity to figure out how that works. There’s free stuff on YouTube, but not all of it is high quality. I can figure out how to make my own sounds this way.

January Grab Bag

The week after the New Year week is always a weird one. In the dreaded private sector, people are busy catching up on what they did not get done over the holidays. Closing the books for the year and getting ready for the coming year keeps people busy. For the political class, it is a time for extra partying, as newly minted pols arrive and the old politicians return to the Imperial Capital. The media is busy being instructed on how to lie to the public in the coming year. The result is a slow week or two in January.

I thought about doing an immigration show or maybe a shutdown show, given that Trump had his big speech on Tuesday. The speech was a bit of a flop, as far as I could tell. I looked at some twitter feeds of immigration patriots and they were not impressed. On the other hand, everyone was horrified by the image if Chuck and Nancy. They looked like weird lizard people from another planet. The more the public sees those two, the better it is for Trump in this fight. He should get them on TV daily.

Anyway, I went in another direction, looking for stuff that was not terribly political, at least related to current events. I do start with a segment on Tucker’s great monologue from the start of the year, which made so-called conservatives very sad this week. I think in the fullness of time, we will see this as a turning point of sorts. It’s a time for choosing among the so-called conservatives and libertarians. They can either join team anti-white or join team white. The days of ignoring this reality of dwindling.

The Greeks & Us

I’m back! I was never really gone, but the podcast took a week off over the holidays, so the podcast is back. It’s good to take a break from something like this on occasion, just to recharge the batteries. This thing takes about six hours a week, spread over the week, so there is more work to it than the blog. The part that takes the most time is gathering ideas and assembling notes. The recording is only about two hours. Still, it’s not a full time job, but it takes time, so a little bit of a break from time to time is a good idea.

One of my more popular podcasts was the one I did on the Romans. Everyone on the Right, even the sissy-Right, likes to talk about Rome. There’s something satisfying to the comparisons between America and Rome. That’s probably because the Romans had a lot of interesting characters. The Romans were also around a long time, so it feels like their history is the set of all possible outcomes for a people. With a little historical license, you can find an example from their history to meet just about every need.

The Greeks are a bit different. I think it is because the West has so much more respect for the Greeks than the Romans. Maybe it is the fact the Greeks never conquered the world, like the Romans. Alexander certainly did, but his empire did not outlive him and the people involved were not so dramatic. That said, there are a lot of interesting lessons to be drawn from the history of ancient Greece. That’s the theme for the show this week. It will be a sampling of ancient Greek history and the relevance to our own age.

December Grab Bag

Most likely, this is the final show of 2018. I’m not sure if I’ll do one next week, because of this being the start of a long holiday. Lots of people drop out between Christmas and New Year’s day to travel and decompress. I’m one of them. I was going to spend the week in Paris, but the whites are rioting again, so that’s out. Instead, I’ll be using the time to take care of administrative items around the office, catch up on my reading and reset various projects I have going. It’s a good time to reset and get ready for a fresh start.

I will be dropping in on Happy Homelands on Saturday. Paul and Tiina will be hosting a special Christmas show, which will have a bunch of people on over two hours. I always recommend Paul’s videos to people curious about what’s happening on our side of the great divide. They are a nice, gentle introductions to our topics and people. I thought his appearance with Millennial Woes last week was great. Our side needs more accessible personalities, because most people see us as the Hell’s Angels of politics.

Otherwise, the next week will be a light posting week. For me, light posting means a day or two off, but everything is relative. It also depends upon how events play out with the big showdown over the wall funding. I’m not all that confident Trump can get a deal done, but maybe Ann Coulter taunting him has finally snapped him out of his funk. This is probably where we find out if Trump has any chance of winning a second term. But, we’ll have to see what happens. maybe we get lucky and it wraps up today.

A Show Of Don’ts

This week I decided to do some housekeeping. I started looking at the lists I keep for posting and podcasting with an eye on doing some year-end cleanup. This time of year I like to take some time to reorganize and reset. I noticed on my podcast list that I had some stray items and leftovers that I was probably never going to use, so some housekeeping was in order. That’s when it occurred to me that maybe I could bundle all of them into a single show. That way I would not discard them entirely.

The result this week is a show about things you should avoid doing. These are all ideas I thought about using for different topics, but they never quite fit. The first segment, for example, was something I thought about in the show on fascism, but it was left on the cutting room floor, as the professionals say. The last segment is something I thought of using in a show about popular culture, but I decided I did not care enough about popular culture to do a whole podcast on it. This show is a hunter’s stew, of sorts.

Tonight at 8:00 PM EST I am scheduled to be the Josh Neal live stream. I don’t know a whole lot about him, but he seems to be interviewing people involved in dissident politics, so I figured it would be fine. His list of topics to discuss is free will, the near future of dissident politics and my thoughts about Donald Trump. The show will run about 90 minutes and you can watch it at anytime. Given that this livestream will happen during my designated drinking time, it should be an entertaining episode.

This week I have the usual variety of items in the now standard format. Spreaker has the full show. The World’s On Fire

This is the first post using the latest version of WordPress that automatically updated overnight. It is complete garbage. It’s as if they formed a committee tasked with ruining the product by making it more difficult to use. One of my goals for 2019 is to move off WordPress entirely and now I’m much more motivated to do it. I’m not sure if the YouTube or Spreaker embed will work, but we’ll see. I’m not sure how any of this will work.

Also this week, I have been de-platformed by Spotify. Apparently, the tender little babies who make up their customer base were vexed by my presence. I don’t know how many people were listening to me via that platform, but it must have been enough to get the attention of their morality officers. Frankly, Spotify is a garbage platform anyway, so I really don’t care. It says something bad about the younger generation that they like that platform. It’s radio for people who like being told what to like.

Anyway, this week almost did not come off as I was busy with the above ground life, but a foolish consistency is important in these things. That and I was not sure what to do this week, other than the French stuff. Then looking around, I found other fires burning that are worth discussing, so we have a show about issues on the edge of the abyss. It’s funny, but whenever I get stumped for content, the world comes to my rescue.

Back To Basics

Something I noticed putting together last week’s show is I have fallen into a pattern as far as material and format. That’s a good thing as without order, there is chaos, but the orderliness of the show has left out some things I like doing. I had not done a Xirl science in a while, for example. When I started this, I was just grabbing random stuff that I found entertaining, without thinking about how it fit together. That’s how I stumbled into the whole Xirl science gag and the black science gag and the libertarian bashing.

Anyway, I decided that once in a while, for variety, I should put together a podcast the way I used to do it. That way I can mock libertarians, which I will henceforth call NAP-bashing, and do some Xirl science. This also helps when I am short on time or stumped for ideas, as it is easy to surf the Reason site or the twitter feed for New Peer Review for material that I can use for the show. To do a one hour podcast each week probably consumes about ten hours of time each week, spread out over the entire week.

This week I have the usual variety of items in the now standard format. Spreaker has the full show. I am up on Google Play now, so the Android commies can take me along when out disrespecting the country. I am on iTunes, which means the Apple Nazis can listen to me on their Hitler phones. Letters To Z Man

With what will be an extended weekend ahead of me, I decided to post the podcast early this week. That way, if you are stuck in traffic or waiting in an airport, you can pass the time listening to my soothing voice. Given that tomorrow is Thanksgiving and I will be slipping out early today for the long weekend, I figured I should close up shop for the week and get this up on Wednesday. I’m not sure if I will be posting anything over the weekend, but I often say that and end up posting things anyway. Still, the plan is to take a break.

I’ve also been feeling a bit guilty about letting the e-mail pile up. I’m getting more mail as the audience grows. Much of it actually comes from the podcast now. I think most readers will post a question on the site, but many listeners get the show through iTunes, Spotify and other platforms that now syndicate the podcast. The result is I’m getting more e-mail related to the podcast. I try to read all of it and respond, but I am woefully behind and often don’t get to it until weeks later. I have a very busy schedule these days.

What I decided to do a few months back is organize them into similar topics and then do a post answering the most common questions. Then it occurred to me that it could be a podcast, for a week when I want to do something light. There’s no better time for that than before a holiday. The topics are the common ones, but also ones I wanted to address for one reason or another. I get some interesting questions from time to time. A little artistic license has been employed to avoid outing anyone or offending anyone.

You’ll note that there is no table of contents. That’s because it is just one sixty minute segment this week. That means no explosions, for those who have complained about that in the past. Never let be said that I am not generous to my critics. I actually recorded this whole thing straight through with very little editing. I did have to take a break to get a drink or clear my throat, but otherwise it is one straight hour of me talking. That was a lot harder than I expected. Talking to yourself for an hour is not as easy as it sounds.

This week I have the usual variety of items in the now standard format. Spreaker has the full show.
