The Secret Police

Ten years ago, if you asked people if the government was involved in manipulating public opinion or leaning on social media companies or spying on presidential candidates, very few people would have agreed. Those who did think this was the case were branded conspiracy theorists. Today, most people just seem to accept that this is now the way things are done in our democracy.

It is hard to know if this is really the case, but the lack of public outrage over the stream of revelations about government pressure on social media companies suggests people are not surprised by it. Maybe most people are still processing it, as no one was raised to think they lived in a police state. Possibly the lack of mainstream coverage lets the public ignore what they would prefer not to face.

When you look back at the last time the public learned they were secretly being manipulated and spied upon by the secret police, the reaction of today feels like capitulation in comparison to how people reacted fifty years ago. Back then, both parties and the media were outraged at the abuses, even though many in both parties and the media were parties to the corruption.

This new version of the Church Committee that the Republican House is planning is sure to turn into a circus. The reason is the Democrats will go out of their way to make it as ridiculous as possible. They will appoint their craziest members to be on the committee investigating the secret police. The media will be tasked with discrediting the whole thing as an assault on our democracy!

Of course, we can now see that the original Church Committee was a show to placate the public and did nothing to limit the secret police. When you look at the programs that were revealed during that time, you see that they never actually ended. They just became part of the standard operating procedure. In fact, the secret police are far more invasive and abusive now than at anytime in its existence.

Even so, it is a good comparison. Fifty years ago, the people in charge felt it necessary to convince the public that they had reined in their secret police. Today they think it is funny that the secret police are manipulating the media, pressuring social media companies and harassing citizens over their opinions. It either means they no longer think they need to maintain the lie or they are unable to do it.

That last part cannot be discounted. Go back and look at the people running the secret police in the middle of the last century and then compare them to the cast of characters we see today. Those old guys look like giants in comparison. Fifty years ago, a mentally unstable man like John Brennan would not have been allowed on the property. Maybe the current crew simply lacks the talent to maintain the façade.

Alternatively, maybe the lesson the secret police learned from the Church Committee is that they need better control of the politicians. The reason they are so brazen today is they know they have nothing to fear from Congress. If they can raid the villa of a former president, what can they do to a pesky congressman. Perhaps like the Praetorian Guards, the secret police have assumed control of the system.

A Ukraine Primer

Now that we are starting to get some clarity on how the military situation in Ukraine is going to play out this year, it is a good time to contextualize the war, which means understanding the politics of it. The only way to understand this war is to understand the people responsible for it and the people responsible for this war and the many other wars since 1990 are the neoconservatives.

It is a bit ironic that this bizarre cult may meet its end in the place where their ancestors got their start. Most of the neocons from the middle of the last century were from parents who emigrated from places like Galicia, which is currently part of Ukraine, but was part of the Russian empire a century ago. That part of the world has produced far more than its share of troublemakers.

Stefan Bandera was from Galicia. He is the inspirational leader of current Ukrainian nationalists, like the Azov battalion, which have been fighting Russian militias in the Donbas since the coup in 2014. Interestingly, many prominent Bolsheviks were from this part of the world as well. Of course, many of the most important neocons came from that part of the world as well.

It would be nice if 2023 brought some attention to this bizarre cult of fanatics responsible for this Ukraine disaster, but these people are better at avoiding sunlight than they are at starting monstrous wars. People like Robert Kagan and Victoria Nuland should be brought center stage and explained to the public. They are responsible for death and carnage that would make a certain Austrian blush.

The show this week is a primer on these people and their machinations over the last thirty years with regards to Russia. It looks like this long bloody history will come to a head this year, which means the official narrative will collapse. It also means the nationalist narratives will fall apart as well. The Ukraine war is about imperialism, but not the sort of imperialism they imagine.

Random News Items

I had to record the show on Wednesday evening as I had things to do on Thursday, so I was left to guess about the Kevin McCarthy drama. My guess from the start was that this would go on for as long the sides had breath in their lungs, because it has nothing to do with issues and everything to do with personality. Those opposed to McCarthy simply detest the man for who he is and that is not changing.

What is remarkable about this is how willing the rest of the party is to tell their voters how much they detest them. By supporting this bozo, they are giving the finger to their voters in the most obvious way. The angry one-eyed dwarf calling the holdouts “terrorists” is why people are sick of the Republican Party. The party of John McCain is the main reason for the present crisis.

This has been an unexpected boost to our side to start the year. The goofballs in conservative media have taken this opportunity to remind everyone that they are just as loathsome as the party they support. Here we have some of the Fox News actors calling the hold outs insurrectionists. Then they had Anthony Weiner’s best bud attack Lauren Boebert in a live interview. Hilarious.

The best part about this is the party has an easy way out of this jam. They could dump McCarthy and find someone that is not hated, but instead they are rallying around the establishment flag. Even better is that whatever deal they eventually cut with the holdouts will be immediately broken. The party of finks will figure out a way to fink on themselves in the finkiest way possible.

Happy New Year 2023!

It is a new year and it is important to start with a clean slate, so this is an unscheduled show to clear out the mail bag. That way I can close out 2022 without any unfinished business and start the new year without a hangover from the prior year. I also felt guilty about letting the mail bag linger and not acknowledging the people who sent gifts to me since the last time I did one of these shows.

The intro to the show is Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians. When I was a kid he was on television ringing in the new year. His version of “Auld Lang Syne” was the only version as far as anyone knew. Out of curiosity I looked around to see if anyone had tried to do an updated version of it. The results were not good. Allegedly this Mariah Carey version is considered the best new version. It is terrible.

There are some songs that should never be sung by anyone but the person who made the song famous. The Sid Vicious version of “My Way” is amusing and it has meaning in terms of music history, but it is terrible otherwise. The only version worth hearing is the Sinatra version. A modern singer performing the song is suggesting she belongs on the same stage as Sinatra.

My guess is they have trashed up the New Year’s eve shows to the point where only a degenerate can tolerate them. I have not stayed up to watch any of them in decades, so I am left to guess. I think the last time I made it to midnight on the big night was in the 1980’s, but I no longer remember. My tradition is to be asleep before the clock strikes midnight so I can get an early start on the year.

Happy New Year!

Year End Finale

It is that time of year again when I go into my winter hibernation. For the next two weeks the show will be on hiatus for Christmas and New Year’s. There will be regular written content here and behind the green door, but it is time to give the old pipes a rest and prepare for the new season of the show. This is the time of year when I plot new ideas and changes to the format.

For the last show of the season, I decided to keep it light and do some newsy stuff, but one thing I missed is the latest Twitter drama. I must admit that even though I am not on Twitter, I am enjoying this more than I should. For example, I see that Keith Olbermann was suspended by Musk for being an all around horrible person. The new horrible person rule in the terms of service is going to be great.

It also appears that Musk has banned doxing and mobbing. Antifa accounts will no longer be allowed to post personal data about normal people. They will also be banned if they try to get a mob together to attack a normal person. This is pretty much the entirety of their activity on Twitter. They are either doxing people or they are spying on people, hoping to get them attacked in public.

The best part of this is that Musk banned some activists from the mainstream sites like the Washington Post and CNN. All of the fruitcakes who use the word “journalist” like it means “cleric” are up in arms. “Just imagine if this had happened to a Fox News reporter” they gasp. The fact that the old regime did this routinely has been forgotten, because fanatics see only that which confirms their fanaticism.

Where this leads is hard to know. The crazies will never abandon the site, but Musk seems to be determined to apply some basic rules evenly. The Yoel Roth/child porn stuff seems to have rattled Musk. The day he fired that perv was when things started changing quickly as far as moderation. History says the sexual degeneracy stuff is always the bridge too far in these matters.

What is happening with Twitter is a good reminder that one person with power is better than a million people with no power. The reason to win over the masses is so that people with real power decide to join the cause. That can only happen when the masses appear to hold the moral high ground. Musk was moved to act because people he liked were getting the shaft from Twitter.

Dissident Thoughts

Years ago I did a show on what it means to be on the dissident right, but it was long enough ago to revisit the topic. Back when I did the show, hardly anyone used the term so it was a different conversation than today, when lots of people use it. In fact, far too many people recklessly throw around the label. Just because you got booted from your Facebook group for using the N-word does not make you a dissident.

What you see is lots of people who used to claim the label alt-right having stopped using that now discredited term and picking up this new label. Their opinions have not changed and their understanding has not changed. They just needed a new label so they scanned around and found one that had not be ruined yet. In many cases, these people have no coherent politics at all, just grievances.

Labels are important, especially in politics. The words in the label bring meaning and connotation, but the label should have its own definition. The white nationalists are not simply people who are white and patriotic. Hitler was white and a nationalist, but no educated person would call Hitler a white nationalist. The label white nationalist has meaning that transcends the words in the label.

Therein lies the danger with labels. The white nationalists have allowed the bad guys to define the label they use. It was not all their fault, as the bad guys control the organs of cultural production, so they were able to define the label. That said, the many wackos who have been allowed to use the label white nationalist have made it easy for the bad guys to anathematize the term by soaking it with their vitriol.

That is why it is important to control your language. This was one of the many errors made by the alt-right. They never bothered to provide a clear definition of what they meant by an alternative right. This allowed every weirdo and goofball looking for a home to lay claim to the label. If they had put some effort into defining their labels and controlling who used it, they would have avoided the weirdo problem.

That is the gist of the show this week. What it means to be a dissident in this time and place, as well as what it means to be dissident right. I have also sprinkled in some of the things I talked about at AmRen, so the people who were there will recognize some of the things at the end. This is a topic that could probably be made into some useful posts down the road.

I recorded the show on Wednesday evening, so I could not comment on the Kanye West appearance on the Alex Jones show. Editing the show last night, after having watched a bit of the circus and the aftermath, it occurred to me that what we are seeing is the imagination of Andrew Anglin come to life. West is a weird post-modern Pinocchio that exists to lampoon the pieties of the current age.

For those who did not see it, West was on the Alex Jones show with Nick Fuentes to make a big scene. West showed up dressed as a ghetto Spiderman. He was wearing what looked like a varsity jacket, if the varsity was gay prison gang, along with a black gimp mask that had no openings for his eyes or mouth. He also brought a tiny net that you would use to fetch fish from an aquarium.

In the course of the show, West tried to promote Hitler as a misunderstood character, wrongly slandered by the Jews. Alex Jones tried hard to keep the show on the topic of censorship, but West would have none of it. Laura Loomer was brought on to talk about herself and one of Sammy Davis Jr’s grandchildren spoke for some reason. Fuentes was a minor player in this theater of the absurd.

Since this started, I have struggled to make sense of it, as the whole thing is an eleven on my ridiculous meter. It is impossible to take seriously a man who thinks it is a good idea to do a TV interviewed dressed as ghetto Spiderman. Add in the fact that he is playing the Clayton Bigsby character from that old Dave Chappell sketch, but taking the role seriously, and we are in a strange place.

The question that matters here is who benefits from this? Freak shows always have a short life and in time this will be forgotten. On the other hand, those who lampoon current pieties with absurd exaggeration can stick around, but eventually their target gets tired of the jester and has him thrown off the tower. Andrew Anglin has been ignored into extinction by the people he used to mock.

On the other, other hand, this freak show is just the next step in the decline of our politics into the absurd. Is a black hip-hop Nazi any more ridiculous than a brain damaged hobo in the Senate? Maxine Waters is now a respected figure in Washington, so how absurd is it to imagine Kanye West as the new David Duke? This freak show is just the next logical step in the decline of politics.

That said, mockery and satire work as political weapons when there is a serious message baked into the mockery and satire. It is hard to find the serious message in any of this, other than maybe it was a bad idea to elevate hip-hop culture, but that was obvious since the Sugar Hill Gang came on the scene. Otherwise, this stuff just looks like weird for the sake of being weird.

News Radio

Been pressed for time this week so I took the easy way out and cranked out a show about the news. Thankfully, Trump made his big announcement so the news was full of loony stories about Trump. I have never been a big Trump fan, but I have appreciated the knock on effect of his career. He has flushed out many people who had previously been thought of as stable minded.

I recorded the show before I knew Nancy Pelosi fell off her broom. She has called it a career as leader of the Democrats. The race to succeed her will be interesting, as the bench is not very good. The scuttlebutt is that Hakeem Jeffries from New York is lined up to be the next Democrat leader. He could very well be more ridiculous than Pelosi, which is something few thoughts was possible.

This will be the first test of the transition from the geezers running the parties to the feckless airheads vying to succeed them. There will be other tests as Schumer and McConnell have one foot in the grave. Biden, of course, may already be dead but animated by secret forces. Washington is about to enter the clown shoe phase as they move from the dinosaurs to the circus freaks.

Let’s Get Small

One of the lessons of the Tuesday election show is that voting matters when the results are open to competition. In one party states, voting is ceremonial as the results are always the same. America is well on its way to becoming a one party state, so voting is no longer a part of politics. It is another lottery, a thing to let stupid people think that one day something magical will happen.

Voting is not politics. In this age, voting is just the process of trying to guess who will be selected as the winner. Politics encompasses much more than voting. One of the great defects of democracy is that it convinces people that their politics begins and ends with the process of voting. This is most common with conservative people who want to think of politics as a part time thing.

This is why the conservative movement was a grand failure. It argued that politics should be a small part of life. They wailed about the Left politicizing everything, as if that would stop them. Instead, it just convinced naturally conservative people to do politics part time while their enemies did politics fulltime. The result was that conservatism managed to conserve nothing.

For dissidents, the only way forward is to develop and counter-culture, which means politicizing our own lives fully. How you spend your money, where you spend your money and on whom you spend your money must be political. How you live, where you live and with whom you live is political. In order to build a counterculture, the dissident must become a fully political animal.

That is easier said than done. Almost all people in the dissident space came through one of the doors of official conservatism. The former libertarians, paleos and Buckleyites all came through a conditioning that said politicizing everything is what the Left does, so it is wrong. Breaking that conditioning is harder than quitting smoking, because there is a billion dollar industry promoting it.

The place to start is to get small. The show this week is about the small businesses popping up within the dissident space. We are seeing more of these which is the most important political development in generations. The parallel economy, as Andrew Torba calls it, a form of quiet quitting, as the regime calls it. Simply finding a way to remove yourself from their grip is the best thing a dissident can do.

Election Special

This is the last final push to the election. That means the democracy supporters have just a couple more days to get those ballots printed and into the mail, depending upon the state they are ballot stuffing. Elections have turned into Christmas for the elves who are tasked with making sure their bosses get what they want when they wake up the morning after the election.

All joking aside, the very weird noises coming from the Biden people suggest they are plotting a caper next Tuesday. Biden’s chief of staff issued what he called a final warning about the election. Of course, Biden’s speech made clear that the only way to defend democracy is to support the regime at all costs. It was another form of “by any means necessary” that we heard in the Trump years.

Much like the over-the-top response to Kanye West and now the basketball player, a repeat of 2020 next Tuesday would serve our interests. The regime would avoid an embarrassing result on Tuesday, but it would come at the price of their legitimacy, which would be an enormous price to pay. Too many people would notice what was happening and draw the obvious conclusion.

On the other hand, the blowout for the Republicans that dwarfs expectations would be hilarious and a nice little pick-me-up heading into the holidays. A night of salty tears and threats from the news carnies would be good fun. Twitter, given what is happening, could be hilarious. Sure, it would give normie false hopes, but normie is a sack of potatoes, trapped in his conditioning.

If I had to guess, the riggers will have a tough time of it this time simply due to the dynamics of midterms. They also got a late start because they were sure things were going their way into the late summer. This time there are scads of “election deniers” on the look out for mules and ballot stuffers. Lots of people want to be a star for having caught a rigger red-handed pulling shenanigans.
