On YouTube there is a genre of video about living off-grid. That is, living in a rural area without electricity, gas, internet and so on. Many, if not most, are fake because most everything is fake these days. Some are legitimate and they make for interesting viewing because it is mostly problem solving. Watching a guy noodle through how to make a tiny hydroelectric system is interesting.

There is also the appeal of disconnecting from the modern age. Consume the mass media for even a short time, like when putting together a podcast, and the appeal of off-grid living is obvious. Imagine a world where the liars have to hike into the forest in order to lie to you about something. You are fixing up you hut and some guy shows up to tell you about something called deniers.

That would not happen, which is the appeal of dropping out. Given the popularity of these videos, there must be a fair number of people thinking about it. Of course, YouTube stats are all fake too, but there are lots of books on the various aspects of off-grid living, so it seems to be a real thing. There is still a lot of empty land in America, so dropping out is not as impractical as it sounds initially.

On the other hand, The corollary to the Timothy Leary line, “Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out” is “Turn Off, Tune Out and Drop Out.” You do not have to move to the forest to disconnect from the grid. You can just drop your media connections, stop following current events and busy yourself with old fashioned hobbies. You can drop out while remaining in the regular world.

The challenge there is that the liars can easily get to you. Instead of consuming popular culture you take up woodworking, but then you start noticing that your favorite wood working sites now have rainbow flags on them. We are saturated in party messaging so if you have any presence on the grid, you will be infected by it. There is no where to hide in the grid from the lunatics and their lunacy.

I recorded the show just when news of the queen’s passing was hitting the wires, so it was not on my list of topics. It will no doubt be the main topic of the news this weekend and into next week. Every loathsome creature seeking attention will slither forth and say something stupid in the hope of getting likes. Ours is an undignified age and even the funeral of a dignified figure will not change it.

Tucker Carlson had a good monologue on the link between the queen and the British past, which is now gone for good. Great Britain is barely a country at this point and it will soon be closer to South Africa than its glorious past. Like America, Britain is on its way to becoming a majority-minority society. At that point it ceases to be a nation or even a country, but simply an administrative zone.

The Queen’s funeral will be a time for the old British to mourn the loss of their country and its traditions. There will be those who try to lever this emotion into a rearguard action to fight against the gathering darkness. Of course, the new British will be out reminding everyone that the new Britain will be vulgar and coarse. An ungrateful nation of foreigners will get to be ungrateful one more time.

The new British are not entirely wrong. The old Britain is never coming back and no one should be mourning its loss. It is the old British who murdered their society and turned it over to ungrateful foreigners. Sure, not everyone was onboard with the great replacement, but most of the British ruling class not only supported the auctioning off of their heritage, but they continue to celebrate it.

Clearly, something went horribly wrong in that glorious past. There is no going back and starting over, so the logical thing to do is close the books on it and begin thinking about what sort of future can be fashioned from the present. Maybe use thoughts of the glorious past to maintain a healthy anger at the bastards responsible for wrecking your country and turning it over to ungrateful foreigners.

Otherwise, the past has little to offer us. The connections have been severed and we are drifting into uncharted territory. If that glorious past will be remembered at all in the future, its orphans will have to be the ones to win the future. That is the next turn of the wheel for dissidents everywhere. You win the future by preparing to fight for it, not by agonizing over a past that is gone and never coming back.

I must admit that I have enjoyed the blow out loss of Liz Cheney much more than I expected to enjoy it. It has been known for a long time that she was going to lose her race, but somehow the Cloud People were not ready for it. They have been carrying on like this is a bolt from the blue. I suspect the midnight miracle of 2020 convinced them that if they wished hard enough, their election dreams will come true.

That has been the best part of it. The people bemoaning the result are the worst people and they are not hiding it. By worst people I mean conservatives. They are so angry that they are letting the mask drop and taking aim at the voters. It reveals that it was never been about Trump the man but about the people who support him. They hate the Dirt People as much as any of the other Cloud People.

For the better part of two years, Liz Cheney has made the straight forward argument that Trump is a menace and his voters are fascists. Conservative Inc. just nodded along, because they agree with her. They actually defended her as standing on principle, which is an amazing claim when you stop and think about it. It means one of their principles is that normal white people are monsters.

This result, along with the sagging poll numbers of the Republicans, suggests that there is a change happening with the Dirt People. Voting out an odious carbuncle like Cheney, just for the fun of it, is a rebuke to the party. Some percentage of the Dirt People are waking up to the scam that is the Republican Party and they are ready to act on it, even if it means the crazies keep control.

Time will tell if the current polling is real, but the fact is the Republicans are currently offering nothing to the voters. Mitch McConnell is publicly hoping the Democrats keep the Senate. He shot down a scheme to nationalize the election around issues like trade and immigration, probably because he knows it would work. The party of Liz Cheney is mad at its voters and maybe those voters are ready to get mad back.

The show is a bit slapdash this week since I have been burning the candle at both ends for the last two weeks. Work projects have had me pinned to the workstation from dawn to dusk and beyond. The last week I have been up at six and working well past midnight, so I am running on fumes. There are worse things than being busy, like having no work to do, but there are limits. I need a vacation.

At the start of the Covid panic I noticed an uptick in work requests. It made some sense as the lockdowns threw everything up in the air. We are long past that point in this area and in most areas. Even though lots of people are still working from home, which should be the new normal at this point. Despite a return to normalcy, my workload continues to rise suggesting other forces are at play.

One answer is the accelerating baby boomer retirement. Those old whites are being replaced by people who are differently abled. If you have seen the ads for the Google Career Certificate, you can see the problem. The moaning about the baby boomers always misses an essential point. There are lots of them doing essential work and when they are gone, there is not one to replace them.

Something else I notice is that the people who could be competent either have little interest or they are unprepared. Business has always struggled to find enough good people, but now it is acute. There are people who can do the work, but they do not want to do the work. It is one of the side effects of a transactional society. We cultivated a couple of generations to treat work like a Tinder date.

Whatever the reason, I find myself busier than at any time in my life, so something has to give and this week it is production quality. I literally turned the mic on, started talking, played it back and hit send. Usually, I have a few hours of prep, a couple of hours to record and couple hours to edit. Sadly, I noticed no difference in the audio quality which means I have been wasting time the last few years.

The topic this week is one I will return to when time permits. We really do need a dissident framework through which to interpret the news. The Trump raid is a good example of the need for new tools. We are being hit with a firehose full of government lies, media lies, Trump opportunism and grifter hot takes. The goal for dissident politics is to reach a point where none of this is effective.

It is that time of year when we begin the slow turn into fall. In most places it is still a million degrees, but there are little signs here and there. The sun sets a bit earlier every night and it is a few degrees cooler in the morning. The big sign is the slow return of political lunacy in the news. The chattering skulls, influencers and news makers are still on holiday but they are plotting their return next month.

The big news this week was the primaries in key states. The amusing bit was how the crazies went nuts over the Kansas abortion referendum. They do not have much to celebrate so it makes sense to make a huge deal over one small win, but it was amusing to see the deluge of stories in the media. Sprinkled in were some reassuring tales of obscure MAGA candidates losing local elections.

That is the real story. Trump endorsed candidates seem to be doing very well, despite general Trump fatigue and the efforts of his party. Many of these candidates are fakers and liars, but some are genuinely ticked off people. The woman running for governor in Arizona appears to a polished up Marjorie Taylor Green. Blake Masters, also running in Arizona, is as close to one of us as you can get.

That is what does not show up in these news stories. People are probably more angry and restless right now than during the leadup to the 2016 election. The antiwhite pogroms have radically changed attitudes. Normie seeing ads featuring everyone but white people, unless it is a white woman with a black man, has had reality jammed in his face for a couple of years now and he does not like it.

Because there is no acceptable outlet for these feelings, except by watching Tucker Carlson at night, the result is a seething anger. Of course, the reckless antics of the geezers running Washington just adds to the unhappiness. The primaries have elevated a lot of unconventional candidates, despite the party efforts. The general could turn out to be a red wave similar to 2010.

So far, regime media has not noticed this. They are still carrying on like it is the runup to the 2020 election. As we get closer to autumn it will be interesting to see if the narratives shift in preparation for the November election. Maybe they snuff out Biden to create a distraction. Maybe China finally snaps and we have a war. Maybe the regime remains on this glide path until it slams into reality in November.

No one can know what the robot historians will call this age, but a fairly good guess is they will call it the age of outrage. Everything is driven by outrage. Either it is mentally unstable people outraged over the normal operation of the world or it the mentally unstable trying to get attention by outraging normal people. Outrage is the fuel that drives public discourse and politics in this age.

Outrage is like crystal meth for some people. Once they get a hit, they can think of nothing else but the next hit. Before long they are in one of the many intensely on-line subcultures, getting outraged with the other addicts. They cultivate their own outrage and share outrage with others. Who they are is entirely defined within the outrage culture of their new lifestyle. They are outrage junkies.

Sites like the Daily Beast and Huffington Post started out as legitimate new media sites catering to a broad audience. It feels like a million years ago, but both sites used to employ normal people. Until Arianna Huffington decided to rip off her contributors and run off with the cash, the HuffPo covered a broad range of topics. Now these sites simply peddle outrage to the addicts.

Just like other drug problems, the GrifterCons use the plague of outrage to separate normal people from their money. The Conservative Industrial Complex exists to tell normal people about the latest outrages. Instead of showing video of addicts on the streets, it is video of abortion protestors and Antifa rioters. If you send them money, they promise to do something about it. They never do anything about it.

At some point normal people get tired of being outraged by the outrageous behavior of these outrage addicts. You see it with the abortion stuff. The chunky protestors showed up to outrage the onlookers only to find very few people looking on. Outrage fatigue is a real thing and you can be sure that the outrage addicts are outraged by it. Like meth addicts, the outrage addicts always have a reason to get high.

Something I did not cover in the show is the fate of the most popular president in human history, who has come down with Covid. This is interesting for all sorts of reasons, not the least of which is that Biden used to angrily lecture us that only unvaccinated people could get Covid. It seems like a long time ago, but he was the leader of the “pandemic of the unvaccinated” chorus.

On a personal note, I was one of the few people pointing out that this mRNA technology had never worked very well in livestock. The boost in immunity was short-lived and tended to have a much higher rate of negative reactions. In livestock, the latter can be counted as a cost of doing business, but we do not do that sort of math for humans when it comes to vaccines.

Now, that does not mean the vaccine was all bad. For someone like Biden who is very old and frail, the risks are worth it. Even with the very mild variants kicking around, Covid is still a killer of the very weak. The same applies to the flu. If you are over seventy, getting a flu shot is a risk worth taking. For everyone else, unless you have a special medical condition, the vaccine was never a good idea.

Putting that aside, you see the problem we have by the near total silence from the Republican party on this issue. They could be using this to hammer Biden, but they were onboard with the vaccine mandates too. The same is true of the conservatives, who forgot all about their principles during the panic. All of these people believe the same things, they just disagree over the presentation.

The greatest boondoggle in human history will be flushed down the memory hole because no one in the managerial class will speak out against it. Most have already forgotten the whole thing. Those who know got the message a long time ago and they keep quiet to keep their position. It is like how everyone knows the reality of crime, but no one ever talks about it in public.

Arguably, one of the most important political concepts to come out of the 20th century was James Burnham’s theory of managerialism. It is important mostly because it is a set of accurate observations that allow for a further understanding of what is happening in Western societies since the Second World War. Once you understand that our society is organized like a corporation, with senior management and a large layer of middle-management, things make much more sense.

The trouble is most people do not want to see this. Instead, they indulge in reductionist theories about secret cabals manipulating the system. Others pretend that the system is what is advertised and you just have to vote harder. Still others insist we have drifted into something randomly called socialist, Marxist or communist, not because the system possesses these qualities, but because those words are epithets. Despite being incredibly useful, the concept is hardly used.

One reason for this is the managerial class controls access to that which has value in modern society. If you want your ideas to get heard, you must pass muster with the people who keep the gates of the system. Just as in a corporation, you are not going to get to speak your mind around the bosses if they are not going to like what you have to say about them. Management always gets conservative about its position within the organization which means it is naturally defensive.

Another reason this idea languishes on the fringe is that most political commentary comes from mediocrities excluded from the elite track. The commentariat is populated with people unqualified to run a hotdog stand. As you see in the dreaded private sector, middle-management tends to be a cheering section in this system. Unlike a private company, the managerial class never has to worry about making a profit, so the cheering section can be stuffed to the gills.

There is also the fact that the commentariat is devoid of people who have experience in the dreaded private sector. Someone like Sohrab Ahmari struggles to understand managerialism because he never read the source material and he has no idea what goes on inside a company. He cannot see the parallels between the corporation and the corporate state. It is extremely hard to use a concept when you do not understand it and lack the capacity to comprehend it.

Interestingly, the people at the top of the managerial class and especially those seeking to reach the top are ignorant of the concept. They have achieved class consciousness to the extent that they naturally identify with the others in their class. They mark themselves with their dress, their language and political beliefs. The latter jumps out at the lower ranks where they tend to embrace the most extreme versions of elite opinion as a way to gain attention from the bosses.

The idea that animates the people in the system comes from Gramsci. They seek to control the centers of cultural production and they are aware of it. They want to control official truth in all areas of society. They do not see themselves as controlling access to and the benefits that are derived from property, capital or information, even though that is exactly what they are doing. Controlling institutions is about controlling access to what is valuable within the domain of the institution.

This means the managerial class has achieved class consciousness, in that they consciously identify with those in their class. They see themselves as distinct from the rest of society. On the other hand, they suffer from false consciousness in that they think they are motivated by altruistic reasons, like the spread of liberal democracy, individual freedom and equality. In reality, these social causes are a defense mechanism to protect their power over society.

One of the strange things about the mass media age is that you stop noticing the awfulness after a while. Lots of people have taken a break from watching sportsball, for example, and then found they could not go back. When they tried to watch a game or show related to the game, they suddenly found it intolerably stupid. The same thing happens with the infotainment side. Once you take a break from it, the stupidity jumps off the screen when you return to it.

The last week of June and most of this week I have been tackling some changes in my daily routine. As a result, I have been unplugged from the new cycle. Normally, I check a dozen main sites every morning. Every Sunday there is a news show behind the green door. I also try to catch the opening of Tucker most nights. The last two weeks I have done little of that due to time constraints. That and change can be tiring so when I had some free time I just relaxed.

This week I wanted to do a casual show so that means going through the news items and commenting upon them. My goodness. The short time away was enough to break the spell it seems. The ridiculousness of the people on these mass media platforms takes over the screen. The over the top language, the exaggeration and the paranoia is intolerably ridiculous. Going through the various news sites my myötähäpeä was pegged at eleven the entire time.

A while back I did a Taki post on the macaroni men. This was a fad in the 18th century in which men would dress like clowns in public. The only thing is their absurd costumes were not intended to be funny. These were serious people and their ridiculous outfits were proof of their seriousness. The same thing exists now. Instead of silly hats, the Cloud People don silly ideas. They decorate themselves with overwrought opinions about small things made up to be important.

Of course, the absurdity of it all reflects the absurdity of the people behind it and to a great degree the target audience. The mass media is created by flakes and weirdos for people who want to be like them. The days of a newspaper seeking to inform the readers about the events of the day are long gone. Cable chat shows are just the modern freak show and animal act. Out mass media is an essential part of a ridiculous system run by ridiculous people.

The show will go on hiatus for a week, so this is a two hour program to make up for the loss of an hour next week. Since we are officially in summer, something I wanted to do, but have not found a way to do it, is plug some books from our side that people may find useful on the summer holiday at the beach. I do not do many book reviews, but I get a lot of requests for them, along with book suggestions.

For the fictionally inclined, three books by two authors from our side have been recommended to me. Karl Dahl’s Faction is a crime novel released last year and another episode is coming out soon. Spencer J. Quinn, who turns up in the comments here and writes for Counter-Currents has sent me two of his books. One is White Like You and the other is Charity’s Blade.

Old friend Joseph Cotto has a book out about the history of Florida. This focuses on the French settlements and what happened to them. It is a bit of forgotten history that there was a French settlement in Florida. It is fair to say that the history of the state and of the country would be much different if the French had done a better job managing their colonies in the New World. Counter-Currents has reviewed it here.

While on the topic of friends of the show, I did a review of Paul Gottfried’s latest book for American Greatness a few months back. Given that the Left is now promising another summer of rage, some may be inclined to study up on the history. Antifascism: The Course of a Crusade is a short read about the surprisingly long history of anti-fascism in the West. It is a good companion to his book on fascism.

Finally, I recently read Kevin MacDonald’s book Individualism and the Western Liberal Tradition and I have to say it is an odd book. I was planning to do a review, so I did a close reading, taking lots of notes, but even after thinking about it for a while I am still not sure what to make of it. I did not hate it, but I did find it a bit frustrating because of how it is organized. It could just be a matter of taste.

In case anyone is interested, I am currently re-reading Burnham’s The Managerial Revolution for my own book project. My copy comes with the essay by George Orwell titled, Second Thoughts on James Burnham. The essay is a critique of Burnham’s often ridiculous claims during the war and the failure of his theory from a socialist perspective, which itself is an interesting reminder of Orwell’s own limitations.
