The Return Of The King

This week the Power Hour makes its triumphant return just in time to celebrate one of the newest, but most solemn festivals, Insurrection Day. Given the way they have been carrying on for the last year, it is surprising that a congressional idiot has not suggested making it a federal holiday. Then again, that would make it more difficult to brainwash school children into thinking that this is the time when orange Nazis tried to burn down the Reichstag Capitol and seize power with Big Lies!

The absurdity of this ridiculous drama conceals something interesting about the psychology of the political class. They seem to require an Alamo-type event to rally their minds around as they lash out at their enemies. Charlottesville, another trivial affair, has been a rallying point for them. They got three years out of that one, so January 6th will probably be with us through the next presidential election unless some new political tragedy is engineered by our good friends at the FBI.

Part of it is the fact that the ideology of liberal democracy does not provide the sense of struggle required to keep everyone engaged. Like communism, liberal democracy has evolved into a revolutionary mindset without a defined end. It is just a process that goes on until something magical happens and we reach utopia. The commies came up with perpetual revolution to solve this problem. Liberal democracy is evolving a culture of permanent crisis to keep the believers engaged.

Charlottesville and now January 6 are legends that can be told around the campfires as reminders of the struggle. They both have the same elements. The cause was the good people were not vigilant, which allowed the bad guys to form up. Both stories have a point where things could go either way. Both have the point when the righteous swept the villains from the field and triumphed over evil. Both have their martyrs, although the January 6 martyrs are imaginary.

Of course, the more you examine it the more you see that the overlap between ideological zeal and insanity is quite large. These people cannot exist in the world as it is, so they have created a fantasy world. This world of imaginary villains is one where they can pretend to be on the side of angels in the great struggle. By itself it would be harmless, but this madness comes with a fanatical drive to control society. These people are crazy and highly motivated to take over society.

Communism eventually sidelined the fanatics. That is largely what happened when the Brezhnev faction deposed Khrushchev. The more sober minded saw that rule by true believer would get everyone killed. They were still left with an unworkable system full of logical contradictions, but they were able to stabilize it for a generation. It remains to be seen if liberal democracy can pull it off. Biden is the closest analog to Brezhnev and he is a doddering old fool incapable of doing anything.

Xirl Science

In my youth when we hunted the mammoth and sabretooth, it became clear to me that a lot of jobs in corporate America are pointless. I was working at a big company that had to go through a round of layoffs. They called is Reduction In Force, which quickly became RIF. People were riffed rather than fired or let go. The banality of evil lies in corporate jargon. As a low level functionary with computer skills my job was to keep track of who had been riffed by their job function.

The first thing I noticed is management did not seem to know what many of their positions did for the company. The managers could talk about their direct reports, but the people creating the titles and roles were often unsure about the reason the positions were created in the first place. Most jobs seemed to evolve into an all-around staff assistant after they were created. Assistant accounting manager was just an office clerk that worked in a cubicle over in accounting.

The other thing that became clear is the work being done by the people riffed was not all that important as no one missed it. Some tasks were moved to other people, but most of it was just busy work that was eliminated with the person. The 20% cut in office staff did not result in 20% less work. It just reduced the number of meetings and the volume of paper moving around the office. The truth was, many of the remaining jobs were just make work as well.

When you read the work product of the academy, the thing you see right away is much of it is nonsense busy work. These are people with no useful skills and nothing to do so they fritter away their time in a game of make believe. They imagine themselves as academic and intellectuals. Their specialty is basically a hobby of their own creation, which is an offshoot of their mentor’s hobby. You could eliminate the social science and humanities and no one outside the academy would notice.

The other thing you notice about these nonsense fields is the struggle to apply these boutique theories to anything resembling reality. Queer studies makes perfect sense within the extremely narrow scope of academic queerness. Outside of that narrow scope it makes no sense whatsoever. Much of what is produced in these pseudo-intellectual fields – that is a generous description – is a desperate attempt to apply these crackpot theories to real world situations.

The financial structure of the American university system is unsound and serious cracks are starting to appear. There has been a 15% decline in public university enrollments over the last two years. Some of it is due to the Covid panic, but that is just an accelerant in this trend. The higher education Ponzi scheme cannot withstand drops in enrollment without it creating very serious financial problems. Demographics is only going to make this issue more obvious.

You have to wonder if what lies over the horizon is the biggest reduction in force we have seen since the collapse of the buggy whip industry. Colleges will be forced to cut costs and the low hanging fruit is the nonsense studies. It is not hard to imagine a university system riffing entire departments. We may be seeing the peak of bourgeois decadence in higher education. What lies ahead is a massive contraction that eliminates these sorts of fields entirely.

Words With Enemies

The show this week is on a topic that comes up here in different ways from time to time but will become more of a focus in the future. That topic is the intellectual and spiritual underpinnings of the new religion. Our side has the bad habit of judging this stuff by objective standards, which has some minor utility, but is of no use in developing suitable defenses or an alternative moral philosophy.

The first step in that process is the same as in war, which is to reconnoiter the enemy in order to understand his strengths and weaknesses. In the sense of the culture war, that means going into the enemy’s intellectual territory to understand how they think and get a grip on their code. Every subculture has its own language and the new religion is not an exception. They have their own jargon which we have to learn.

This parallel language is not just something they use in private with other cult members, but part of their everyday lives. What makes it effective is that the objects of their wrath are ignorant to the secret meanings. The enemies of the new religion still rely on dictionaries for words like race and sex. As a result, normal people are ignorant of the scheming that is often happening in plain sight.

As an aside, this is why the hard-thumping believers spend a lot of time cooking up imaginary code words used by their imaginary enemies. In the Charlottesville trial, the plaintiffs brought in a psychic to explain various internet memes. Projection is a big part of the new religion, so they assume that their enemies, real and imaginary, are speaking in coded language just as is done by the Left.

That said, dissidents do rely on coded language and esoteric language to communicate in the public square. Otherwise, the usual suspects would have an easy time of rounding up their opponents. In fact, every post here contains coded messages embedded in the text, along with the key for decoding them. The key, of course, changes every day and is why there are no Saturday posts.

A Rambling Return

I wanted to keep the shows light this month because it is the time of year when we should be in high spirits. This is my favorite time of year. We have the holidays and the year is winding down. We have the start of a new year to look forward to and the culmination of another year. It is a good time to take stock of things, count your blessings and gear up for what comes next. Plus, it gets dark early and the weather is turning to winter. This is the best time of year.

With that in mind I scanned the news sites looking for material and I was struck by a couple of things. First off, the people in charge are miserable. Everything is going sideways for them and they have no idea why. Reading the news items about the economy makes clear that they are in deep denial. We have inflation, shortages and a totally screwed up labor market. This is making their Build Back Better scheme look dangerously ridiculous to the public.

It is not just the economy. These idiots not only created a new cold war with the Russians but may be on the brink of a hot war. This Ukraine fiasco is entirely the fault of official Washington. They got in bed with the Ukrainian crooks because they liked the bribes and they picked a fight with Putin because of Trump. Now the Russian army is on the doorstep of Europe. The Ukrainian people deserve better, of course, but the blame largely lies with the incompetent idiots in Washington.

Everywhere you look, things are crumbling for the regime. The best and most amusing part of it all is that Team Biden is telling the party that they plan to run his corpse again for president in 2024. Of course, the party cannot push him aside because next in line is Kamala Harris, a woman less popular than rectal cancer. The whole thing is a disaster for the inner party and they seem to know it. Given the troubles on the horizon, 2022 promise to be nothing but misery for them.

As I said in the show, the GOP will probably benefit, but people are starting to smarten up a bit regarding their act. Read the comments of their party organs and you see lots of bitterness toward the party. You see this in daily life as well. The old red team/blue team stuff is falling apart quickly. I have heard more than a few civic nationalist types lament the fact that they no longer have a party. I suspect GOP voters are going to be looking at primary challengers in many races.

It is not all puppies and kittens. When the rulers screw up the people suffer and there is going to be plenty of suffering in 2022. Inflation means higher interest rates and that means big trouble for the economy and the stock market. It has been forty years since that has been necessary. Millions of retirees are not going to be happy with how the rulers fix the economy over the next 18 months. The short term is going to be a difficult time for normal people.

Letters An Such

It is that time of year where the loafing begins. Every year the loafing seems to start earlier for some reason. When I was a young man, people worked right up to the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. The boss would let people go early on that Wednesday, but lots of people worked the following Friday. Then it became a four day holiday for most people, even working class guys. Then Wednesday became a day when people took off to get a jump on travel.

Covid seems to have added some more loafing to the schedule. Last year Tuesday was the big travel day, at least for car travel. That means Thanksgiving is pretty much a five day weekend for most office people. I’ve noticed that my work e-mail is in sharp decline this week and that many people will not be around at all next week. Thanksgiving is quickly becoming a full week off for many people. That means the Friday prior will soon become a day in which nothing gets done. Loafing is our strength!

There is plenty to moan about in this life, but the expansion of Thanksgiving into a weeklong holiday is not one of them. It is a quintessential American holiday that has not be corrupted by the times. They have not found a way to blame white supremacy or claim it was invented by slaves. There is the Indian guilt issue, but those efforts have largely failed take hold. Despite the worst people trying their worst, the holiday remains a time to enjoy the simple things and be thankful for them.

The negative this year is the Covidians have started to demand vaccine passports from relatives in order to come over for dinner. How much this is happening is unknown, but it is an idea being pushed by the usual suspects. A fake poll was created that claimed 60% of people are demanding vaccine passports at Thanksgiving. It was just a bit of guerilla marketing from a sleazy marketing firm, but the media wants to hear this, so they have been pushing the idea.

Most likely the real number is pretty close to the number of people who were sure Boris and Natasha were hiding under their bed. The same people who put on their serious face to explain to you why Trump is Hitler now put on their serious face to tell you that you have to wear a life jacket so they will not drown. Covid has made plain that our crazy people problem cannot be solved with conventional means. Physical removal of the crazy people is the only path back to normalcy.

That may turn out to be the gift of Covid. If these people are sure that the rest of us pose a threat to them, maybe they remove themselves. Carve out a bit of Mexico or perhaps a spot in the Amazon for them. They can be safe because they are all in it together and the rest of us can get back to normal. Imagine a world without Covidians, it is easy if you try. If such a thing occurred, Thanksgiving would become a global one month holiday because the world would be so grateful.

Reforming Normie

The days are getting short, and the year is getting short, so it is a good time to clear out the backlog of ideas on the idea list. I keep a running list of possible show topics that tends to get out of hand over time. This time of the year is when I try to impose some order on things and get ready for the next year. This week is actually a few show ideas combined into one two-hour show.

Another motivation was to address the whole “what do we do about normie” topic from a couple of different angles. This is a popular topic on this side of the great divide, especially around an election. It seems that some people cannot accept the reality of their condition, no matter how many times they get bonked on the head. How can you reach someone who seems to be immune from observable reality?

The problem with the “what do we do about normie” problem is people start with democratic assumptions. That is, the point of politics is to get fifty percent plus one of the people to agree. That does not make a lot of sense for a political movement that rejects the claims of democracy. Dissident politics is never going to be about winning over the majority of the public. It is about ending that nightmare.

Of course, dealing with the sorts of people who still read National Review or listen to Ben Shapiro is frustrating. Every normal man is tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin strangling civic nationalists. One reason for addressing these people is to learn how to do it without becoming homicidal. A good salesman knows the difference between a prospect and a contact.

A Rambling Tirade

One of the unnoticed things about the current crisis is that the people getting what they want are increasingly angry, while the people getting worked over by the system are remaining calm and patient, for the most part. The crazies got what they wanted through the Trump years. They snarled his administration in a made-up plot and convinced his own party to sabotage his efforts. This required little effort, as the GOP is just their dull-witted flunkies.

Then they purged him from the system. The 2020 election should have signaled the end of the madness. The evil orange man had been removed from office. The Republicans could crawn back under their beds and the Democrats could waste everyone’s time with their crackpot ideas. The media would not have hear every day that they are fake news or the enemy of the people. Everything was back to how it was. You would think that they would be celebrating in the streets.

Instead, it has been a year of tantrums and vitriol. The more the lunatics get, the more they want and the more they want, the angrier they get. Their response to the mild bit of pushback on Tuesday was to promise more attacks on normal people. Pelosi promised to ram through their Build Back Better scheme. Biden promised to fire millions from their jobs for not worshipping Covid. Of course, these responses are always accompanied by an endless stream of lies and deceptions.

Of late, the question that keeps coming to mind is how much longer are we going to put up with these lunatics? The stock response from most is something about normie just wanting to grill and watch sportsball. It is certainly true that people will tolerate a great deal as long as their bellies are full, and they are entertained. It is also true that no tree grows to the sky, meaning there is a limit to everyone’s patience. The American Revolution was not about the lack of food or entertainments.

It is not even about the people at the top. The real issue is the fruitcakes and lunatics that have been unleashed into a daily life. How can normal people expect to live with the sorts of people in this Twitter thread? For ideological reasons they are making up nonsense about how food is a luxury item. How long can any sane person put up with people who lie like this? How long before normal people snap and slap the smug off the moonbat in their life?

Imagine having to tolerate this stupid shrew? We all have a Covidian in our life and have had our patience tested by them. This ridiculous dingbat could not count her boobs twice and get the same number both times, yet she floats around lecturing the rest of us on vaccinations. These people are why we had things like the dunking stool and the branks. At some point, even unlimited amounts of food and sportsball is not going to be enough to tolerate these people.

Witch Hunting

The season of the witch is upon us. For much of the country Halloween is the tipping point where people head inside. It is in the close quarters of indoor life, especially around the holidays, where the witch does her worst work. They have the vaccine spells, supply chain voodoo, CRT incantations and insurrectionist stories ready to go so they can increase your misery. The witch lives to make the normal man miserable and agitated, especially during what should be the cozy season.

This week’s show is about how to deal with the witches we call leftists, feminists, cult-Marxists, and so. Back when I did the shows on the radical nature of our ruling class, I said I would do a show on how to deal with these people in our daily lives. Given this is the season of the witch, it seemed appropriate to post the show this week. When the kids are out trick-or-treating, you can be aware of the mother standing in the shadows, holding a water glass full of chardonnay.

Another motivation for the show this week is Ed Dutton’s excellent book, Witches, Feminism, and the Fall of the West. Dutton examines the history of witches and explains that while the fantasy version of them is probably not true, the real witches exist, and they haunt us to this day. The real witches today are the women who engage on social media tantrums about the latest left-wing fads. These are the women raised on the toxic brew of feminism and cultural Marxism.

Now, you may prefer to think of these women as victims of modernity or you may think they are in league with Old Scratch. As is often the case, the explanation for objective reality is not as important as the acceptance of objective reality. In this age, that reality is we are plagued with witches who have grown so confident that they now operate out in the open, immiserating the decent with their foul opinions. The result is we all must now become witch-hunters, to cleanse the land of their stench.

That is the motivation for the show this week. Another motivation is that there seems to be an aura of despair hanging over our side. This is the ultimate goal of the great enemy we face. They cannot destroy us directly, so they seek to drive us to despair, so that we destroy ourselves. The antidote to that is to have a little fun and remember that life is for living and living as best we can. This two-hour special is an effort to have a little fun while subtly discussing some real world problems.

This week I have the usual variety of items in the now standard format. Spreaker has the full show. I am up on Google Play now, so the Android commies can take me along when out disrespecting the country. I am on iTunes, which means the Apple Nazis can listen to me on their Hitler phones. The anarchists can catch me on iHeart Radio. I am now on Deezer, for our European haters and Stitcher for the weirdos. YouTube also has the full podcast. Of course, there is a download link below.

Organizational Man

Note: The audio quality is a little wonky this week. The opening is a click faster than normal and some bits in the middle are a bit slower than normal. I record these in pieces and when they were spliced together something went wrong. I did not have time to di into it and it is not that big of a deal, but it has been noted.

The response to the show last week was not what I expected, as I did not think the content of the show was all that good. I got a lot of feedback from people who had been involved in organizing and activism. It looks like this is a topic on the minds of people who have experience with trying to organize at the grassroots level. A few people suggested writing about the basics of organizing, which is a good idea. Our side has nothing in that regard. The Left has tons of material.

The closest our side has to handbooks on organizing is stuff people ripped off from the far-left that has been repackaged with a new title. The Alinsky tract Rules for Radicals becomes Rules for Conservative Radicals. Imitating winners is never a terrible idea, but the people in charge organize under different rules than those seeking to oppose or subvert those in charge. The goals are obviously different, but the range of motion is different due to the imbalance of power and resources.

That is why there is a limit as to how much can be borrowed from the Left when it comes to organizing and activism. This starts with the right-wing radical breaking free of the belief that he speaks for a majority. There is no doubt that the majority would nod along to what he says but they will not lift a finger until they get permission from the people in charge, who are the Left. Throwing energy at trying to mobilize those who quietly agree takes away from effective organizing.

This is something I did not include in the show, but it has been a bane of right-wing causes since forever. The Left is always looking to convert people to their cause, while the Right always seeks to mobilize the converted to the moment. This is why the Left is implacable, never taking no for an answer. It is also why the Right so readily accepts defeat and then internalizes it. Left-wing politics is about overcoming popular objections while right-wing politics is about counting noses.

It is a big subject and deserves a much longer treatment. The show this week is mostly thinking out loud about some aspects of organizing. It really would make for a good book, but I need to finish the book I have three quarters finished. Maybe if I ever get that done, I will take a stab at this topic in more detail. It would also make for a good video series, since young people prefer pictures to words. Young people do most of the activism, so they are the proper audience.

The Death Of Fringe

While putting the show together, something that came to mind is how people on our side seem to be getting wise to certain things. The old gags are not working, at least not as well as they did in the past. Those coming over the great divide have learned some hard lessons about politics in the process. This is why Conservative Inc. has not been able to spin the events of the last five years into new fundraising. Many people really have caught onto their tricks.

Part of it is a greater awareness of the political grifter. Way back in the Obama years, I would drop the word “grifter” into the comment section of a conservative site and most of the responses were asking me what the term meant. Ten years ago, no one used the term and very few people talked about politics as a confidence game. Today the word grifter is used all the time. There is a much greater awareness of the political conmen and the tricks they play on the unsuspecting.

One result of this is people are less willing to get behind someone who steps forward to present themselves as the next face of the cause. The stories about groups like Proud Boys and Oaf Keepers being run by the FBI has opened a lot of eyes. Increasingly, the default assumption is that whoever the media is trying to elevate is not on the level or is just an agent of the state. The FBI shenanigans over the last five years has made many people into cynics when it comes to activism.

This is an example of unintended consequences. The best tool the system had was to herd normal people into these false alternatives. For generations conservatism was the place where normal people rallied to defend themselves. It never worked, of course, but that was the point. Without the Potemkin movements, it is going to be much more difficult for the system to organize the resistance into dead end causes or have them rally around fraudulent leaders.

It will make genuine organizing more difficult, but that is probably a good thing as it will require better people. If you can easily get a mob together online, and no one cares to check out the people in the mob, it is easy pickings for the bad guys. When an organizer has to work hard to gain trust and build his organization, you get a better class of organizer. He is going to be much more circumspect about the sorts of people he lets into his thing he worked so hard to build.

This is something that happened in Tsarist Russia. There was widespread unhappiness with the system in the middle of the 19th century, but the people organizing against the Tsar were low quality people. It took time to move past that phase and to a place where you had serious men building serious organizations of other serious men. The last decade of the Soviet empire had a similar transition. Perhaps resistance must be born of cynicism for it to be genuine resistance.
