Fight The Power!

Instead of doing a bunch of stuff on the impeachment hoax, I decided to go another way and have some fun with the social justice warriors. My guess is most people are already sick of the media’s attempt to foist this latest left-wing lunacy upon us. The massive, coordinated effort to gas light the public on this is breathtaking. No doubt the Left is loving this, but normal people have to be thinking very dark thoughts. A quick look at Drudge and it is clear the media detached from reality.

Speaking of Drudge, what in the world happened to that site? I deleted the book mark back in the 2016 campaign, as I got sick of the anti-Trump stuff he ran every day, but my goodness, that site is garbage now. His site has always been run by rent boys he picks up in South Beach, but he used to exercise some judgement over them. Maybe his lifestyle has finally caught up with him. Whatever the reason, his site is unreadable at this point. It’s a hysterical version of the New York Times.

Anyway, for a little relief from the madness, the show this week is about the various social justice causes. The segment on Emily Walton is my favorite, as it reminds me of when I used to haunt the comment section of news sites. It was always good fun to post biographical material about the author of a post about social justice. Inevitably, the white people demanding justice are always the sort who organize their lives so they never have to experience vibrancy. They talk like MLK and live like the KKK.

This week I have the usual variety of items in the now standard format. Spreaker has the full show. I am up on Google Play now, so the Android commies can take me along when out disrespecting the country. I am on iTunes, which means the Apple Nazis can listen to me on their Hitler phones. The anarchists can catch me on iHeart Radio. YouTube also has the full podcast. Of course, there is a download link below.

A Very Crappy Podcast

For some reason, things became a real grind for me the last couple of days. I’ve been so busy with the day job, I think it is just starting to wear on me. As a result, I’m not in the best frame of mind and that, in turn, makes me less productive. This week I decided to do some lighter material in order to lighten my mood a bit. It really did not work, as recording last night was a real grind. I had to start over so many times I started to lose track, so if the sound is not the best at some points, that’s why.

Yesterday’s post about the tax was another product of having a bad aura. I stopped to get coffee on the way to the office and the locals were doing their thing. At some point I thought to myself, “Why do we have to tolerate this?” I suspect lots of normal men have this thought cross their mind these days. Here in Lagos, it is not just the natives, but the imports that tax the soul. Our betters are dumping the United Nations here, as if we don’t have enough trouble. Maybe they just hate Lagos.

That said, you can’t walk around with a lemon in your pocket, unless you are a left-wing female, so you have to find ways to lift the spirits. This week’s show started out to be a normal grab bag type show, but then a theme emerged, I had some Xirl science stuff ready, so I included that, even though it did not quite fit with the theme. On the other hand, the crap papers that come from the grievance studies people are excellent examples of the show title. Close enough for a dissident podcast.

The segment on smart toilets was still on my mind when I woke up this morning. I just can’t stop thinking about the meetings that go on around designing a smart toilet. I keep imagining a managerial type talking about the opportunity to collect data on people’s bathroom habits, which they can then monetize by selling to advertisers. You know that will be one result of the “connected home.” You will go in to do your thing and an ad for product will appear in the bowl water or start playing through a speaker.

This already happens with mobile phones. Those who travel a lot have surely got the mysterious text message welcoming you to an airport or a location. It will not be long before Alexa welcomes you home by offering you a deal on product. You’ll need to answer a survey to get your smart toilet to let you lift the lid. Whenever I read about the connected him, I immediately think that the future will be crap. OK, that is the last crap joke of the week. Please remember to tip your waitresses.

This week I have the usual variety of items in the now standard format. Spreaker has the full show. I am up on Google Play now, so the Android commies can take me along when out disrespecting the country. I am on iTunes, which means the Apple Nazis can listen to me on their Hitler phones. Dear Z Man

If you look back in the archive, the last time I did a show on Friday the 13th was April of 2018 and I named the show Triskaidekaphobia. Nothing bad happened that day, as far as I know, so I did not worry much about doing a show this time. Now, I put the show together on Thursday, so it was not really Friday the 13th when I recorded. Maybe a lot of listeners drove off the road while listening or had men wearing hockey masks stalk them while they were enjoying the content. Happy listening today.

I did not do anything on the superstition this week, but I did spend a considerable amount of time discussing the nature of media. That is, the difference between watching content, listening to content and reading content. It is a topic I have thought about from time to time. In fact, whenever I watch a YouTube show I inevitably look at the views, the subscriber counts and start to wonder about the real impact of video. The same thing happens when I look through someone’s Twitter feed.

I’m one of the apostates on this issue. I think Twitter is a waste of energy. I think it is an echo chamber for the most part. The Left gets some benefit as their media, which is all media, monitors it for trends, but otherwise it is screaming into the void. I suspect YouTube is also a waste of resources. Video is a passive medium, so even though a video can get a lot of views, people forget what they saw as soon as they are done watching the video. As a result, video is the least effective medium.

There’s also the issue with the nature of the audience. My guess is smart people tend to read more than watch or listen. Dumb people make up the bulk of the video audience, which has been true of television since forever. Therefore, if you want to influence stupid people, video is the way to go. If you want to impact society in a meaningful way, then you need to persuade smart people and that means the written word. Those YouTube stars are just making money off dummies.

Now, there are exceptions to every general rule. There are smart and clever television shows and there are smart and clever YouTube stars. Stefan Molyneux and Paul Ramsey were pioneers in the field of internet video. They make smart and clever videos on important topics. They would be the exception that proves the rule. The vast majority of YouTube creators are not smart or clever and their audience tends to drool a lot. I doubt the fans of RamZPaul move their lips when reading.

That said, even smart people have been trained by the internet. If you want to influence the culture it means making your ideas consumable on a mobile devise. That’s not to say smart people consume ideas only through their phone. It’s just that like everyone else, their attention span has been diminished by the internet. Smart people are not reading one thousand page books that require hours of quiet contemplation to fully understand, which means a good writer needs to be pithy and economical.

Again, I could be all wrong about this. Whenever I bring it up, I get push back from people who insist we need to go back to quill pens and velum. Then there are those who swear the kids only watch short videos, so that is the future. Both points can’t be true and maybe neither is true. Maybe the reason the pamphleteer has been an indispensable part of politics since the printing press is that the most effective way to change someone’s mind is with a short explication of your position.

This week I have the usual variety of items in the now standard format. Spreaker has the full show. I am up on Google Play now, so the Android commies can take me along when out disrespecting the country. I am on iTunes, which means the Apple Nazis can listen to me on their Hitler phones. Wammin’s World

For the first show after the short summer break, I decided to go with a topic that I think is going to be a major theme of 2020. I wrote a post the other day suggesting that the 2020 election will be both one last hurrah for the Woodstock generation, as well as a modern battle of the sexes. We thought the wammin issue was settled when Trump dropped a house on Hillary Clinton in 2016, but it looks like her ideological soulmate will be the nominee for 2020, so the wammin war will continue.

The interesting thing about this renewed war on the sexes is it will no doubt be covered exclusively from the female perspective. Since the media assumes the female perspective is youngish, single and urban, rather than middle-aged, married and suburban, which is closer to reality, the reporting will reflect the feminist lunacy we have come to associate with the issue. Trump did about the same with women in 2016 as Obama did in 2012, but the media assumes women hate Trump anyway.

Where Trump won the 2016 election was with men, specifically white men. He doubled the Obama 2012 margin and did as well as Bush with white men. If you are building a case for Trump winning in 2020, it starts with Warren winning the nomination. Men do not like her and it appears blacks are not enthusiastic about her. Warren seems to poll worse than Clinton with those two groups. On the other hand, she seems to cast a magic spell on professional women. I have a segment on that this week.

The thing about the war of the sexes is that it is really a war on normal women. When you examine the arguments from the Left and from feminists, not a lot of it is aimed at changing male behavior that is beneficial to women. Mostly it is aimed at eliminating the protections a healthy society has for its women. The resulting social breakdown creates more unhappy women, who can then be recruited into the coven of feminism. To what end, other than collapse, is never articulated.

One media note. This weekend I will be filling in on the FTN weekend broadcast. I will be co-hosting with Ethnarch, covering the news of the day. I’m not sure if Allsup will be on, but it could just be the two of us. The whiny millennials, who always moan about Boomers will be treated to some rugged Gen-X posting.  Maybe it will toughen some of you sissies up a little bit. The site is here and I’ll post a link to it here once they post it up on their site. It should be up Saturday evening.

A Late Summer Mélange

As we head into the last semi-official week of summer, at least here in America, I wanted to keep it light this week. I had something else in mind, but I realized I was taking next week off and not feeling very serious as a result. I bet a lot of people are in the same place, as the summer winds down. Here in Lagos, the schools start the day after Labor Day this year, so next week is a big vacation week. Parents are prepping for school and non-parents are enjoying family free time at the beach.

Of course, the end of the summer means the news cycle picks up again. The FBI document dump appears to be queuing up, so that means the Left will be turning the sewage hose on full blast in order to distract us. Taking some time off before the lunatics are back at full screech is a good idea. As we get closer to the 2020 Democrat primaries, the lunacies is sure to reach levels we never thought possible. I did a little on this in the show, but I suspect we are in for an interesting autumn.

One of the funny things about doing a lot of traveling in your business life is that vacation often means no going anywhere. When I was a young man, vacation meant going somewhere for sun and fun. Years of traveling and I now look forward to take at least one week a year where I just stay home. I plan to leave Lagos next spring, so I am looking forward to a week of cleaning out closets and making trips to the landfill. It’s not a glamorous way to spend a week, but it beats being in a hotel room.

I’ve also found that the vacation at home is much more relaxing that taking a trip somewhere. These days, you can never get away from work, as something always comes up that you have to address. When I’m on a trip that is always in the back of my mind, especially if I’m in a different time zone. At home, I just leave the e-mail client up and take a look from time to time. I don’t feel like I’m missing anything and I have the peace of mind that I can address anything as it comes up.

Whenever I think about that fact, I wonder how people lived in the age before constant electronic communications. I would imagine most people just assumed you could not reach someone on vacation, so they figured it out on their own. That and there was probably more respect for people’s time away from the office. Not to sound like a Bolshevik, but the technological revolution has led to the enslavement of the population in ways the old Robber Barons never could have imagined.

Corrections & Clarifications

I’ve been burning the candle at both ends for a while now and I think it is starting to catch up with me. When I started to think about topics for the podcast this week, I was coming up blank. I kept thinking about various ideas I’ve had for posts, based on comments I’ve seen over the last few months. Since I was struggling to come up with content for the show this week, I decided to take up those blog post ideas and use those for the podcast, rather than save them for future writing projects.

One of the things that happens when you have an audience growth is new people come along, who are unfamiliar with your past positions. Something that happens when you have around for a while is you tend to say everything you have to say about a subject and then move onto other things. Put the two together and the new people often assume you have not tackled their favorite subject. That’s part of the motivation for the show this week. Going back and addressing some old topics.

As I was getting into it, I started thinking about other topics that I could include, but I was going long for some reason, so they were will have to wait. One that I will take up in a blog post is the issue of drug taking and drug policy. Like the issue of community activism, this is one where you see the defeated nature of whites. The nation’s drug policies and the debate over them does more to foster white guilt than all of the lectures from emotionally disturbed feminists on twitter.

Just a quick note on upcoming events. I will be attending the Scandza Forum in Copenhagen this October. If you are in the area or want to be in the area, details for attending are here. I’ll be at the Mencken Club conference this November. For those looking to get an idea what these conferences are like, Mencken is a good first event as it is well done and at a convenient location. BWI is a cheap airport to fly to and the event is at hotel that is reasonably priced. It is a good time.

August Grab Bag

There are times when even the most cynical among us gets a little black pilled by what’s happening in the world. This week has been one of those times. The left-wing war on white people has gone from an indirect attack on whites, often using euphemisms, to an all-out, open call to get whitey. We now have a congressman demanding white people be registered in a government database. You can be sure someone will arrive at the idea of having us microchipped like we do with our dogs and cats.

We are in the middle of a White Fright. The same kooks, who were flooding the internet with claims of Russian election interference, are now sowing panic over a grand white conspiracy to do no one knows what. They are now competing with one another for who can conjure the most bizarre conspiracy theory. The similarities between now and the mood of France in the summer of 1789 are obvious. The Great Fear was a panic that gripped the peasantry, while the White Fright is gripping our rulers.

The depressing part of it is seeing the so-called conservatives grovel to these kooks and lunatics. Of course, Trump revealing to us once again that he has always been nothing more than a vainglorious bullshitter, who got lucky in 2016, only makes the mood much darker than it would be otherwise. If you are a white person, these are the worst of times, but life is struggle. Fair or foul, we are destined to live interesting lives and the government will be made aware of us. The Chinese scholars will get that.

The thing to keep in mind with all of this is the kooks are not working from a clever plot hatched by super-geniuses. The anti-whites are in a full panic because their handlers and leaders are in a full panic. They truly fear that they waited too long to slam the cage door shut and now it may be too late. The great vibrant future they imagined is not right around the corner. It is never going to happen. That’s what terrifies them. That’s why they are unleashing the rage heads and crackpots.

Letters To Z Man

Since this week is a show about answering questions, here are a few items I did not have time to address in the show. A few people have asked about Ann Coulter linking to a post the other day. They wanted to know how much traffic it generated. The answer is not very much. Twitter is not much a traffic generator, even with big accounts like Coulter, as people on that platform don’t follow links. It’s why I have not bothered to get back on the platform. It’s just another silo on the internet.

The number one source of traffic here is the search engine. I can see the URL that brings people to me and it is either a topic I cover or something with the phrase “Z Blog” in it. That I take to be word of mouth. Someone mentions to a friend that they read the site and that friend then googles the term. After that, it is sites like Maggie’s Farm, WRSA and the Woodpile. The Feral Irishman is another example of the type of site that moves a lot of people along to other sites.

A few people have asked about why their comments end up in moderation. This is something I’ve been meaning to explain for a while. The spam filter does a great job of blocking the obvious stuff. Questionable items end up in moderation. What makes a comment questionable? Epithets, vulgar language and too many links. If you avoid using crude language and don’t load up the comment with a million links, then it goes right through, so avoid bad language.

I’ve gotten a few queries about the readability of the site on mobile devices. I just added a mobile option to the site, so let me know how it looks. The text should be heavier and slightly larger. I can also increase the mobile font size, but you can also zoom on your mobile to do the same thing. The thing with mobile devices is they are all different and there is no magic way to make the site just right for all of them. Well, there may be a way, but I’m not investing the time to do it.

This week I have the usual variety of items in the now standard format. Spreaker has the full show. A Summer World Tour

The custom in the independent media game is to do something to recognize milestones like anniversaries or certain show numbers. July not only marked the two year anniversary of this show, but gave us the 100th episode as well. I did not acknowledge the anniversary, as it fell on the holiday break. I also forgot all about it until I was putting this post together and looked it up. As far as this milestone, I could not think of anything special to do, so I just stuck with the normal program.

Showing up is the big challenge for this sort of venture. Most podcasters and vloggers start strong, but after a few months start missing shows, posting late and eventually quit before their first year. The same is true of bloggers. In some cases the grind of sticking to a schedule is the issue, but for others it is simply that they run out of material. They also get disappointed by not becoming a star right away. Once the novelty wears off, they start to lose interest and eventually quit doing it.

That’s the trick though. When I started the blog, I had no idea what I wanted to do with it, so I tried a bunch of different things and kept at it until I found a style and process that I enjoyed. That took about a year. Then I noticed the audience starting to tick up ever so slowly. I think it was late in year two that some people with big followings noticed me and started linking my posts. That brought lots of traffic and the site grew like a weed ever since. Showing up eventually pays off.

The same pattern has emerged with the podcast. I had done some interviews and people suggested I try doing a podcast. I had no idea how it worked or what I would do, so I just started doing stuff and figuring it out. Two years in and I’m still trying new stuff to both mix things up and to figure out what works for me. Episode one had a grand total of 300 listens. Now a show gets thousands of listens the first day. I have no way of knowing how many people listen via Google and Apple.

The point here, is if you are planning to do a blog, create a YouTube channel or some other type of on-line activity, sticking with it is the main challenge. Eventually you figure out what works for you and in the process you build an audience. That audience will tell you what works and what does not work. Eventually, the process becomes natural and something you enjoy doing every day, even on the bad days. For me, writing and podcasting is a shelter from the storm.

July Grab Bag

It has been an interesting week for yours truly. Starting off with the trip into the Imperial Capital then the fallout from my reporting on it. Lots of new eyes on the site as a result, which is always welcome, but not all eyes are good eyes. I’ve gotten a lot of interesting e-mail from these new readers. Then there were the links to social media posts about the VDare piece on the conference. This is one of those weeks where I was glad I was not on Twitter. That’s not a distraction I need in my life.

The funny thing to me about this week is I went into it thinking no one but me and a few others, maybe, would care about this thing. I was not all that excited about it, because I thought it was going to be three days with people trapped in the past. There was certainly some of that, but there were also a lot of people now on the river’s edge, looking across to our side of the great divide. That was quite an eye-opener for me and the big white pill of the week. It’s not always bad news.

That said, I am looking forward to things returning to normal. I have a million unfinished projects right now, which brings me stress, Getting back to the normal routine means slowly knocking things off the list. My dream, for decades now, is to wake up one day, look at the to-do list and see everything crossed off. Of course, that will mean I am dead and finally ascended to the next plane of existence, so maybe I should be happy that the list of open items is longer than it seems I will ever finish.
