Over the long Independence Day weekend, I was thinking about how events unfolded in the colonies during the revolutionary period. The story of American independence is a lot like most revolutionary events. Any number of decisions by the participants could have radically altered the outcome. Just as in France or Russia, the king had a lot of chances to resolve the situation in his own favor, but either failed to act or made the one decision that was the worst among all possible options.

One thing led to another and I got the idea of a show where I take a quick look at other tumultuous times to see what lessons we can pluck from that could be relevant to our own age. I don’t want to make this into a history podcast, but our side has a high level of historical literacy, so history talk is a good framing devise. That and variety keeps a podcast interesting. Me reading clips from the news every week would get dull for all of us in a hurry, so trying to things keeps it fresh.

The thing that always jumps out to me when reading about tumultuous times is the mistakes the made by the people in charge are so similar. The Tsar, for example, was an educated man, He had to see the parallels between his situation and that of King Louis, but he acted as if he were working from a script. Just think of how different things would have been if he simply fled the country as soon as it was clear he was losing support from the military. Instead, he played his role as written.

Of course, one of the benefits of thinking about the parallels between this age and prior ages, is we can apply how we see ourselves today to that time in the past. That provides some insight into what it must have been like to the people living through those interesting times. Think about how you felt after Trump won in 2016 or Brexit passed in Britain and then imagine people feeling the same way about some moment in the French Revolution or during the American Revolution.

Catching up on some correspondence this week. I think these types of shows are going to be a regular feature going forward. They are fun to do, as I get to talk about some topics I would probably not address otherwise. I’ve also gotten a good response, so people seem to like the format. The Ask Me Anything events Reddit does always get big numbers, so the concept must have broad appeal. I know I enjoy reading through those things whenever it is someone I follow or find interesting.

It’s also a good way for me to clean up the inbox. I read everything, but responding in a timely fashion has been a problem. I’m a busy guy these days. Then there is the P. O. Box, which gets a fair number of letters. I’ve learned something on that score. Reading an actual letter is much more enjoyable than reading e-mail. There is something to the tactile experience of opening the letter and reading from paper. It’s like the difference between reading an eBook and reading an actual book.

I also suspect the medium changes how the person doing the writing experiences the exchange as well. Dashing off a quick e-mail and hitting send is almost a mindless exercise most of the time. Typing up a letter, or especially writing one by hand, takes thought and care. It’s slower and more deliberative. It reminds me of when I’ve written formal letters in my business life. I write it out by hand, then type it up and have someone read it. Only when it is right does it get sent.

Reading through a stack of letters, I can’t help but think we would be better off going back to that mode of communication in our personal lives. Today, the physical mail is for impersonal stuff like letters from the government. Our dealings with our corporate overlords are another reason for physical mail. With our friends and family, we rely on texts or social media posting. It seems like we have this backward. The corporate overlord should be hitting us up on-line and our family should get the letters.

Being new to the monetization game, I’m learning things about the world that I never put thought into until now. I went to the P.O. Box for the first time last week and discovered it was full of letters and donations. I must admit, I was taken aback by it. Like most people, I don’t get much of anything in the mail these days. I get the occasional notice from a government agency or something from our corporate overlords, but otherwise the mail is junk. Most days, all of it ends up in the trash.

Opening old fashioned envelopes with handwritten notes inside was something I have not done in so long it was like learning a new skill. There really is something different about reading a handwritten letter, even a printed one, that is different from reading an e-mail or comment. It is similar to the difference between reading a book or newspaper versus reading on-line. Maybe it is just nostalgia, but there is a difference. It’s not just the tactile sensation of it. The brain seems to work different too

Initially I though the right thing to do was to send thank you notes, but most of the correspondence did not have a return address. The point, for most, is to maintain anonymity, so that makes sense. I abandoned the thank you card idea and thought a roster of first names and states, but maybe that’s not a good idea. While I noodle over that, thank you to all of those sending donations and words of encouragement through to the post office box. You know who you are.

Now, for Subscribestar members, I am putting a little content up there on the weekends, just as an experiment in paywall content. I’m not sure where I want to go with the donor content just yet, so I’m in my experimental phase right now. In the process of registering for this event, I had to interact with some of the beautiful people, who are trying to create a “new” nationalism. What struck me is just how far away we are from one another in terms of our politics. What passes for the “far right” among the Cloud People is pretty tame stuff. For example, the “new” far right is still not sure if we should end immigration. Some think open borders is fine, while others think some limits are OK, but otherwise nationalism means open borders.

Since the purpose of my attendance is to get some of these people to pay more attention to what dissidents are saying about the issues of the day, I thought a show about immigration was a good idea. I have not done a lot on the subject. I’m a zero immigration guy, so I tend to forget that most people are still making their mind up about this subject. New people heading our way are mostly coming for the identity politics stuff, but immigration is a big driver of it and a major concern for dissidents.

The first segment is twice the normal length and I may post this as a clip at some point, as it is the sort of thing to send to your friend in the Ben Shapiro fan club. In that first segment, I walk through all the different ways people can legally enter America. My guess is few people here know about all of the various visa programs. The typical normie knows nothing about the immigration system. I found it astounding that it took me 20 minutes to read all of it out loud and I take the time to learn this stuff.

First off, a little housekeeping. I will be doing some server maintenance this weekend, so there may be some outages. If all goes well, there will be no outages, but things rarely go well in these matters, so I plan for the worst. These are things that were left over from the server move and I just need to get them done. As I transition into being an e-whore, I need to upgrade the infrastructure in preparation for new ventures. Since this is the main hub of the empire, it has to be ready for many spokes.

Speaking of new ventures, I’m thinking it may be time to abandon YouTube entirely, as I don’t do video and I don’t have a lot of listeners there. I’d like to say I’m linking arms with my brothers in the struggle during the Great Purge, but it is really just a matter of convenience. It’s a bit of a hassle to convert a sound file to the video format and then upload it to the YouTube site. I wish I had a nickel for every time the upload failed or YouTube got angry with a music clip. It’s often a pain to get the show uploaded.

Now that said, it is not some great burden that weighs on me night and day. I have about a 1000 people using YouTube every week. At least I think I do. The view counts on YouTube are not right. The other day, I watched my view count go down in real time, then go back up again a half hour later. Therefore, I really have no idea who is using it to catch the show, but if some regulars here prefer it over other formats or have suggestions for other places to load it, I’m open minded on the subject.

As far as the show this week, someone e-mailed me the story I’m using in the first segment, which got the theme for the show going. The whole show is not about Pride Month, but all of it is related. It cannot be said often enough, nothing says clown world like having a whole month for our betters to lecture us about how wonderful they are for loving the gays. It is further proof that we are living in a bizarre secular theocracy with month long festivals to reinforce the one true faith. It’s gay Puritanism now.

With so much news coming from Europe this week, I thought a show about European politics would be a good way to kick off the summer. Once a quarter I do a show about international topics. These are some of the more popular podcasts, as I get a lot of traffic from Europe, relative to normal. Our friends over the sea pay a lot of attention to us, but they also want to know what we are thinking about them. Even though our understanding of the world is not always the best, it matter the most.

I’ve made this point before, but I think we can learn a lot about the politics of this thing by watching how the European dissidents go about their efforts. They have different political systems and some advantages we lack, but they are a bit more advanced when it comes to organizing and advertising themselves. They have done a better job handling the “freaks and weirdos” problem, for example. It makes sense for our side to keep an eye on Europe and steal the good ideas that can work in America.

The main thing the Euros have going for them is they have natural identities. They know what it means to be French or Finnish. The usual suspects are trying to play the same game there as they do hear, muddying the waters by claiming random Africans are English, but it’s not fooling many people. Europe has been identitarian since the first humans encountered Neanderthals. The only people willing to accept the fluid definition of ethnicity are crazy people and foreigners looking to game the system.

For the show this week, I’m mostly sticking to the election related stuff. The EU parliament elections are mostly a show, as the EU parliament is useless, but it does provide an insight into what people are thinking. It is meaninglessness allows people to vote their current sentiment, so it is like a massive opinion poll. With nothing on the line and no traditional loyalties to consider, people can be more honest. It’s not a perfect survey of opinion, but it does provide some useful insights about attitudes.

Summer is upon us, at least here in the United States, where Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of the summer. Like a lot of you, I’m looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend, so I decided to keep the show light this week. I tried to stick to topics that were not too serious. An important part of being in dissident politics is maintaining a healthy sense of humor. Otherwise, you just make yourself miserable and everyone around you miserable. If we’re doomed, at least we can enjoy the ride.

That was something Milo Yiannopoulos mentioned toward the end of this interview with Jordan Peterson. He specifically said it was the intellectual dark web types that lacked a sense of humor, but it applies to everyone on the other side of the great divide. Left-wing Progressives are vinegar drinking scolds, while so-called conservatives are too frightened to notice anything. Humor starts with noticing. A big part of what happens on this side of the great divide is noticing the ridiculousness of the age.

Milo appears to be ready for a comeback, which is probably not a terrible thing, assuming he learned from his mistakes. In that interview he does appear a bit chastened, but that could just be part of the act. When he is not talking about his imaginary self and sticks to the topic, he is quite effective. The trouble is he can’t stop talking about himself and his “self” is always some character he created to hide his real self from view. This affliction never ends well for performers.

Not having paid much attention to Jordan Peterson, I found his act a bit amusing. I’m old enough to remember when being a psychologist was a glamour job. Television shows often featured that as a profession. Then real science started to crowd out psychology and it stopped being cool. Watching Peterson, I was having flashbacks to being a kid watching TV and wondering why anyone thought you could talk someone out of being insane. The psychologist is the witch doctor of this age.

By the time you are reading this, I will be winging my way out of Lagos to Nashville Tennessee for the annual American Renaissance conference. Those of you who will be attending, I look forward to meeting you. I will be easy to find. For those not attending, I will be positing about it over the weekend. It is just Friday and Saturday, so I’ll probably post something Saturday and then something when I get back on Sunday.

This year there is a bit of a youth movement, as many of the speakers are quite young, but maybe it will be good to have some youth on the roster. The crowd will be close to a record, so maybe the young speakers are drawing in a young crowd. There will be some old timers in the mix, as well, so it is not a children’s crusade. It will be good practice for me at being an old man in a room full of rotten kids.

This week’s show is a little different. I like to keep things fresh, so the format is a bit different, mostly due to the fact I could only think of five sub-topics. The genesis of this week’s theme was something John Derbyshire covered in his podcast last week. He talked about quantifying the degree of craziness in this age. I like to try out new things once in a while, mostly because I’m still not sure what works best for this type of podcast. Writing is a different experience than speaking. What works for a blog post will not work for a podcast. The old saying in legacy media is that radio is a hot medium and television is a cool medium. That is, you need to be fierier on radio to keep an audience, while on television you need to be calmer. No one wants to see a madman ranting and raving in their living room, so you have to appear calm.

I suspect the same rules apply to new media. Within the podcast domain, some things will work better than others, because the media is more intimate. Most people consume this product by their lonesome. That’s why I try new things all the time. I’m figuring out what works in this format and what I like doing. This week, for example, I’m breaking from the normal format to run through all of the Democrat candidates. No breaks. It’s also a much more casual show than normal. These freaks are too weird to take them seriously.

That really is the thing that jumps out when you start looking at these people and their campaigns. None of them should be dog catcher in a small town. It’s ridiculous that any of them running for President. I suspect when the revolution comes, the reason will be that decent people simply got fed up pretending that this stuff is anything but an insult to the dignity of the people. The other thing is this is highly orchestrated. The system actively selects for these people. This freak show is what our rulers want to see.

I like to mix things up to keep it fresh, so this week I’m doing a show on some of the more fringe aspects of the dissident right. Even though these political movements don’t get a lot of discussion, they have had a lot of influence on outsider politics in America and in Europe. Some of the things that you hear in alt-right circles, for example, come from National Bolshevism and Archeofuturism. Even if you are not interested in signing onto a fringe political movement, knowing something about them can be useful.

This is a topic I have been looking forward to doing for a while now. I’ve had some exposure to all of these at one time or another, but I had to take some time to get reacquainted with much of it. It’s fascinating to me how some ideologies don’t change all that much. The Third Position guys, for example, have been pretty much the same since I first encountered them as a kid. Even though the Cold War is a fading memory, there are people out there still viewing the world in terms of the old Left and old Right.

The segment on Archeofuturism is probably the most salient. I’m not someone who comes from that school of thought, but Guillaume Faye is probably the one “right-wing” thinker in the last couple of generations to seriously re-think what it means to be on the Right. He is certainly one of the few who moved his focus up the great chain of causality from institutions to biology and culture. Most of the conventional Right has gone the other way, falling into the gutter of libertarian economics. Faye is a guy worth reading again.

One administrative note. I did a long interview with the guys at Identity Dixie this week and the results will be posted on their site this upcoming week. I think I will be doing a post on the topic of Southern Nationalism at some point, but their site has a lot of interesting stuff on the topic. They did a podcast with the Ensign Hour guys, a Canadian nationalist podcast, that was quite interesting. There is a surprising amount of overlap between Southern nationalism and Canadian nationalism. If you have time it is worth a listen.
